I believe that Swiss government is prevailing due to its sufficient governing system. The other Nordic countries are succeeding, because thy have the same governing type. The united states has fallen down the ran at such a fast pace i believe due to the current economic recession that has been happening in the past couple of years. The united states probably ranks very low on the chart WEF has shown because of our current economic state, and after the recession will come back up high on the list.

I think the United States deserved to not rank as high on the list, mainly because of the recession and the fact that we are losing ground on other countries as a result. Also, we have a major lack of macroeconomic stability, which is a big deal, so we may even slip lower on that list come next year.

It appears to me that the top three governments/ economies are ranked where they are due to their governing systems. I believe that the United States is not ranked in the top three because of how hard it has taken it's recession. It also appears to me that the United States will make an apperance in the top three after our current recession subsides. Our govenment system is so powerful that when our recession ends it will likely climb to the top of the WEF chart.

All these other governments are exporting and lowering deficits, while are deficit skyrockets, I'm surprised we're even this high on the list. The swiss charge more for things and are a lot better of than the rest of Europe, since they go over to neighboring countries, such as Germany, for work and bring the money back to switzerland. My German teacher basically said they sell everything at an amusement park prices, which in america would cripple us. As for our rating though USA! USA! USA!

It doesn't surprise me that our country fell down in the list, although I do not believe we will be down forever. Everyone in our government is working towards improvement and I think we are well on our way towards ranking higher once again.

After the United States suffered from a recession it is obvious that they would most likely move down rankings compared to countries that are having a economic stimulus right now. We shouldn't worry since every country will eventually go through economic turmoil ever so often and then the US will jump back up a couple of places back to where it is suppose to be

Even though the article states that the US ranks fourth in the world based on economies, i mean we're 4th out of hundreds of thousands. And here we are thinking that tomorrow could be the fall of our great nation. i feel we just need to relax and be patient and things will start to turn around guys. We'll be just fine.

katy02 said...

this article is basically saying that the swiss government is moving up in the world of macroeconomics. also the nordic country's are also moving up as the united states is going down in the world of macroeconomics. i think that we can pull ourselves up in the rankings of macroeconomics.

When you consider the countries who are higher on the list, you can see that there are correlations that may be affecting their place.

Sweden, Singapore, Denmark, and Switzerland are all small nations who can afford to have a great economic system. They have a lower population, so less money is spent on social and public services. The U.S. on the other hand, has a much greater population than these nations, s it is much more difficult to support those on government programs, and decide what programs receive what money.

NOTE: (It can also be said that MORE money is spent per capita on social services such as healthcare and the like, but with less people, it all balances out with a higher tax rate and the like, unlike the U.S. where we have more people USING social services monies than people who pay the taxes to support it)

The one exception to this rule seems to be the People's Republic of China. Their unique mix of communism and socialism contributes to the power of their economy. The way that they are slowly loosing the chains and allowing capitalism to breathe correlates with their slowly rising ranking on the list. It seems to be the perfect example of how allowing capitalism improves a nations economy.

The same can be said about the United States. Our slip towards socialism and government ownership of major industries is hurting our place on the list. As the federal government begins to take over what once belonged to private industries, the private citizens are no longer making the capital that can be used to make private purchases from other nations for the purpose of business (such as car parts, food, and other trade goods) if the government owns the corporation, it is likely that they would not make the same business decisions as a private owner would have. This drop of private ownership and heavy government spending causes private citizens to spend less, and therefor damage the economy which lowers the U.S.'s spot on the list of competitive economies.

I think that it might not be a good thing that our economy has gone from 1st to 4th but I have to agree with bbaker_2. we all need to settle down a little bit because we are still ranked relativley high. However, I do think it is a problem that buisseness leaders in America do not have trust in the government and I feel that that might be a big reason we are not ranked as high.

the united states had fallen because of our recession but i believe that since we know how hard it was living thru that recession we will try hard to make sure that doesn't happen again. I have faith that the united states will get it back together and move up the list.

bgrizzle4 said...

I think the US ranked a reasonable spot on the list. In my opinion, it might have been a little lower because of our economy and how the US is right now. It seems to me the US will keep going up and down, but 4th place is pretty good considering a lot of other countries are way farther down than us. Our ranking will hopefully move up the list as we keep improving on our economic problems.

kmabry4 said...

The united States in ranked 4th in the world economies which still seems high to me. We always see on TV how bad our economy is doing and how the rates are almost as low as the were in the Great Depression, but yet were still 4th. It just makes me wonder how bad the other economies are in the world. China was ranked 27th which i thought they would be higher with all the products they produce you would think they would be way up there. It just shows us that even though we think we have such a horrible economy we're better off than we think.

kmyers4 said...

I agree with Chris on this subject. The success of the Swedish/Nordic countries is due to the successful rate for their economy, and that the reason that the US is falling down the list is that we were in a recession and are currently coming out of one, or even still in one according to certain economists. Although it is very impressive that we are still top 5 on the list even with our falling economy, so that is a plus. It just goes to show how large our economy is.

I thought that the U.S would fall economically. The recession has really hurt the United States economically. I did not expect Switzerland to be at the top of the list economically. I actually thought that China would be at the top of the list, but China is rising in the list in economics.

SuttonAbney12 said...

I think that the U.S government is slowly slipping further. We should have been out of our recession by now. The U.S being currently being ranked as 4th is higher than I thought we would be. The Swiss government is governed in a good way. They deserve the top spot.

tlahagu4 said...

The U.S rank 4th this year. They dropped 2 spots since last year. I think the U.S would fail economically. We are in recession right know. The Nordic countries are doing well. I actually didn't expect that. I guess if one does well, most of them might do well also because they have the same type of government. I didn't think that China would be that low, but they are rising on the list.

amorgan4 said...

Its not only sad but also pathetic that our nation is heading in the direction it is. As I am sure millions of people would agree, i hate to see this happening to this nation but i also feel that we kind of deserve it. We have had these issues knocking at our front door for a long time and we chose to ignore them. Now we as a nation sit here on our behinds and scratch our heads wondering why things like this happen to us. The only people to blame are ourselves. Time to wake up America!!

Dani said...

Considering how many countries there in the world, the US ranked quite well. I honestly thought we would have been a lower ranking, but I'm not complaining. I think we've ranked lower than last year because of the state of our economy, and the recent recession that affected our country.

Grudd4 said...

One obvious reason for the United State's second fall from 2nd to 4th is because of the recent recession and the longstanding debt that the U.S has accumulated. I agree with the other students that we should not get too stressed over this situation because we are still ranked top 5. One major problem that i read in the article is that buisseness leaders in America do not trust our government and I think that that might be another factor of the United State's drop in the rankings.

Knoble4th said...

I kind of figured we would be down low on the list just because of the fact that we are in a recession right now. I honestly don't think we will be so low for that long because we are a strong country. But we may stay low for a little while just because of the fact that we are losing stabililty of macroeconomics. but we eventually will recover.

J.Lewispd5 said...

The united states definitely does NOT deserve to ranked high on the list. The recession was a big no no and plus the war!
Hopefully everything will be fixed soon and we can actually deserve to be in the rank we are in because now we really don't deserve it.

KCollins5 said...

The Swiss government is moving up in the government system. The US is still really high up in the ranks compared to some of the other countries in the world. The United States just recovered from having an economic recession which is probably why we slipped from being 1st to 4th. There is fear that US will slip back into another recession, which could make it fall lower on the ranking list in the future. Other countries in the world are ranked higher because of their government systems, and their ability to manage their debt. Hopefully the US will fix their economy and be higher on the rankings for next year.

Aandrew5 said...

I'm personally surprised the US isn't farther down the list, our high unemployment rate, slowly disinagrating education, and our extremely inefficent health care, is not only embarrising but not sustainable; as shown by our high national debt. I can't see the US getting our act together before next year or next decade. We have dug ourselves into a hole and need to get out! Our source of capital, wealth, and buisness, is what keeps us afloat, and # 4 on this list.

bkueker5 said...

The U.S. not falling into the top 3 of the WEF list is just showing how much our economy is falling due to this recession. We will need to come up with a new way of management for an economic turn around. But if we keep this recession going with our poor management of money and how our country spends it... There is no doubt that we'll continue to dropping in rank.

asebastian5 said...

i think that we souldn't be in the same spot because we were in a recession. we were bound to lose a few places when that happened. more than likely we'll be back close to the top evntually. economies fluxuate and that explains the changes for he other countries. you gain some you lose some. and that's all this is showing.

emarcum2 said...

economies change constantly. many countries can be on top and in the next second they can be at the bottom. The United States has fallen from second place to fourth in the WEF because of our lack of macroeconomic stability. Also, U.S bisiness leaders show less trust in politicians.

emarcum2 said...

The economy of countries change continuously. One day a country may be on top and the next they be on the bottom. The United States has moved from second place to fourth according to the WEF. The U.S. has fallen dur to the instability of our macroeconomics.

Anonymous said...

On the World Econmic Forum's annual rankings the U.S. fell from second to fourth place. behind Switerland, first place, Sweden, second plce, and Singapore in third place. i belive that the U.S fell in the ranks due to the recession we are currently in. The report said that the United State's lack of macroeconmic stability is our greatest weakness. Switerland kept first place due to its high capicity for intivation and sophisticated business culture.

sminge4 said...

The recession was a setback for the US, that's for sure. However, if experts are saying that macroeconomics is the issue, our country should strive to strengthen that.

alawwill5 said...

It's a little disheartening that one of the most of not the most powerful countries in the world is ranked 4h the the world. As a country we need to turn our current economic situation around and move up that list and make our country stronger and better than ever. The first step in the right direction would be to get a better governing system in the United States because I believe that is the key to the success of the countries ahead of us and for a country to be strong economically it needs to have a firm foundation. That firm foundation would have to come from the top, which is the government and from there the people will be able to move in a positive direction and the country as a whole can make its way up the list and out of the recession.

BaileyBrubaker said...

Switzerland is the most competetive economy in the the world because its government is working effectively with the economy. I believe the U.S. is moving down the list because of our current recession and lack of efficient government. We will continue to fall if a leader does not step up and make serius changes for our economy.

PotassiumBromide said...

While it is somewhat disheartening to see our home country slipping in the ranks of economics, we are still among the best. It should be fairly obvious to everyone we are currently in a recession, however that is not the only cause. The continuing prevalence of laziness in america, and decreased ingenuity has caused a downturn as well. We have been a country from which the greatest intellectuals, scientists, engineers, and doctors came from. Now, we seem to produce more people who become dependent on their fellow taxpayers, unable to provide for themselves because of sheer laziness and stupidity.

tscott4 said...

The article says that the United States is ranked fourth in the world. I believe that is high, and honestly expected a lower ranking. Our economy, from what i hear, is really bad. So i think we are doing pretty good or being fourth. maybe people should stop complaining and realize that things could be worse.

LTimberman4 said...

I think the U.S. has fallen do to the recession. I also think it's because of the war too. The U.S is in so much debt right now and we're trying to slowly pay it off. But because of everything that's going on at once, the economy has slipped and that is why we are now 4th. I think that in a few years, the economy will come back to where it was originally, and we'll be in the top 2 again.

tmoore7 said...

we rank so low because of the recession. Last year the Asian city-state ranked third and Sweden fourth. There were no newcomers in the WEF's top 10, although Germany climbed to fifth from seventh.

Anonymous said...

I am not surprised that we are ranked not as high as we believed or wanted to be. the recession is killing us and we are not prevailing in technology therefore we are at a stand still. Where as, other coutries are growing and developing.

joshBurns5 said...

recessions are inevitable there going to happen. im just glad we are ranked 4th instead of 44th or somthing. But i did find it intresting that Switzerland to be at the top of the list economically
