I think that either USDA or the Food and Drug Administration should take responibility for the 'bad eggs' and that USDA should have done something about the unsanitary conditions at the Iowa Farm.
I don't think these eggs are egglands best. This article can be summed up by saying a government organization got lazy and decided not to take action. People should eat pasterized eggs that don't contain bacteria which is good considering where eggs come from anyways.
I think it was wrong of the USDA to not report the bacteria found in the egg feed. Regardless if egg things are routine the USDA should take responsibility, and think about the nations health rather than getting their product out.
The people that knew about the egg contamination should have informed the USDA as soon as they could. Egg contamination shouldnt be as big of a deal it was. eggs can come from all over and still have salmonella in them.
the lowa farm is totally wrong for what they did! their responsible for people dying and usda should loo into things and take more tine into what they do. they keeo this up and i believe they could get in really big trouble.
i think that the usda should have reported the bacteria in the chicken feed. this could have prevented the whole recall. i think they should think about are health an also it is the responsibilty of the USDA
USDA did wrong by not informing that there was bacteria in the eggs and that they were not healthy. The nation could suffer from salmonella and cause a big health problem.
this article is about the big salmonella outbreak being linked back to the Iowa farms. this is the largest outbreak since 1970's and it could have been prevented just by feeding the chickens different food. i think think that USDA take some responsibility for the outbreak. but also the farm in Iowa for feeding the chickens the contaminated food.
The USDA and the Iowa Farm are completely at fault for the salmonella that is reported to be in more that a half a billion eggs that have been recalled. The FDA is the only federal agency that i feel is doing their job correctly in trying to correct the issue on the bad eggs.
In my opinion, no single group of people is to blame for this outbreak. I believe that the USDA and the Wright County Egg of Galt, Iowa facility are both in the wrong. Neither did their part in keeping the eggs clean and safe and neither deserves to slip through the cracks of blame. I think the facility should be shut down, cleaned up, and then possibly reopened with the promises of better sanitation and routine checks on the plant. The possibility of salmonella is not worth a few eggs in the morning, sorry.
By not telling that the eggs were contaminated the USDA should be severely punished. Just for the overall fact that they put the health of everyone who has eaten the eggs in danger. Egg contamination is a huge deal and should not be taken irresponsibly.
I feel that the reason that Reuter was not available for comments was because they knew they screwed up and they dont want to own up to it. If they knew the eggs were bad they should have told someone, which would have prevented the recall and a lot of hysteria over the eggs.
The fact that the Department of Agriculture knew about the sanitary problems at one of the two places that caused the massive recall, but didn't speak to anyone about it is a tad disturbing. All these people have contracted salmonella and something could have obviously been done to prevent it. Many of peoples lives could have been saved and the recall may not have reached more then a half a billion eggs if something was said. They risked the lives of many for what? to keep one farm open a little longer? Lives are more important than jobs, and if they were just fallowing protocall, something needs to be changed about that if its allowing the processing of bacteria infested eggs to reach our markets
They need to take responsibility for the eggs. The Iowa farm has killed many people and should be punished for this! Just for putting everyone in serious danger
I can't believe that the USDA did not report the bad eggs. It caused many people to get sick or die. Now they are responsible for all of that. They should have made sure the eggs were watched carefully and kept clean. I agree the USDA should have a sever punishment for this.
Both the USDA and the FDA should own up to this. The USDA should have made sure that the conditions at the places where eggs are produced are sanitary. The USDA also should have said that the eggs contained a dangerous bacteria.
I think the USDA should take responsibility for these contaminated eggs. They should check everything for the sake of people's health than to just get the product out.
I think that both of the companies should take responsibility for the contamination of the eggs in Iowa. The USDA should have done something about the conditions that the eggs are handled in, and the company handling the eggs should check and inspect the eggs more carefully. The bacteria should have also been reported earlier.
This article talks about the recent salmonella contamination of eggs, caused by a farm in Iowa. Perhaps it was a lack of initiative by the various government agencies to take action against it, or maybe it was the absence of the company's sense of responsibility.
Either way, something happened wrong, and this incident needs to be looked into, and the appropriate penalties applied to the guilty parties. It will provide valuable information to be used in case of a future, similar accident.
i think that we should be warned better about something like this. Someone could become seriously ill. Someone needs to take action about this its completely unnecessary.
What i got from this article is that recently there is a outbreak of contamination in a lot of eggs. They traced it back to an iowa chicken farm, which produces millions of eggs. I believe that serious charges should be pressed against them for their mistake. People should not have to be sick on behalf on there farm.
If the salmonella outbreak was something the Egg Companies knew about then it is their fault. If it is something they didn't know about all the blame can't be put on them. People should have been paying more attention to the eggs. Not releasing bad eggs.
It sounds to me like our FDA is failing us.. The question that is still floating in my head about the whole situation is, what is it going to be next? Eggs are something where this can be tolerated but what happens when it comes to something more serious??
This is a bad situation in which people are getting sick. The blame should go to the egg processors for overlooking such an important factor in egg testing. The USDA should get in trouble for something this serious in factor. I believe someone shall have to take the blame, and most likelly it will be leaders of the USDA.
I believe that both the USDA and the farm in Iowa should take responsibility for the egg scare. People are getting sick and dying and they are certainly both to blame. The farm is in charge of raising the chickens and making sure they have the right nutrients to make healthy eggs. But the USDA is in charge of inspecting the eggs. Both of them should own up to the blame.
I think the USDA and The Food and Drug Administration is both at fault for this 'outbreak' of bad eggs. The Food and Drug Administration has overall esponsibility for egg safety. The USDA said it didn't give notice because "the conditions at the egg plant packing facilities were routine," according to the report. thats pure laziness they should never overlook big companies with possible lives at sake
Because of two Iowa farms more than half a billion eggs have been recalled. Both the USDA and FDA are and should take responsibility. Eggs are found always in a common household and if not people always have it on their shopping list so these cant get lazy and not always check up on them. duh
all the eggs were recalled because of an salmanila breakout . it happened because the chicken feed at the two facilitys was cantaminated. they didn't notify the USDA about this cantamination. i think they should have told them as soon as they found out that there was a contamination
I think that the USDA needs to take responseablility for the egg recall due to them knowing about sanitary issues at one of two Iowa farms and not reporting it. Due to the USDA knowing about this and not reporting it, more than half a billion eggs have been recalled. Rueters not being able to be reached seemed to be a bit too conveniet. By the USDA not reporting this, it has casued a "simenla outbreak" and many people are getting sick.
I think the FDA or the USDA should just take responsibility for their actions. the USDA should have reported back to the FDA about the dirt and mold. They should have been more concerned with our nations health.
This article is about the recent salmonella outbreak in eggs caused by a farm in Iowa. Mabye it was caused by the lack of initiative by the various government agencies to take action against it. This incident needs to be looked into, and the appropriate punishments applied to the guilty parties.
Both the FDA and the USDA are at fault for the 'bad eggs'. The USDA should have taken more of a step toward informing the FDA about these conditions. This should not have happened because it put people's lives on the line.
I think that the USDA definetly didnt do their job. Their job is to make sure these things dont happen and they should have kept the eggs under control.
This is the kind of thing that happens when you allow a federal department to have control: stuff gets screwed up. It is impossible for an administration as large as the Federal government to effectively regulate and control business es as (comparatively) small as the business mentioned in the article. Even though in the U.S. constitution, it does say that interstate commerce is regulated by the Feds, it doesn't necessarily mean they do a good job.
In the article, it mentions that the USDA ultimately reports to the FDA about egg safety. This is an example of how the government bureaucracy and red tape is hurting Americans. even if the USDA did report it, how long would it have taken the FDA to gt the word out?
Sure, the USDA was in the wrong for not reporting the violation of regulations and bacterial contamination of the eggs, but how much better handled could this have been if control was given to a STATE administration?
The state, being in it's nature a smaller organization, could have possibly better equipped to deal with the local farms, instead of having to go through the trouble of dealing with the federal government. I could have been an inspection, and an instant close of shop, keeping the eggs from being shipped, as opposed to waiting days or even weeks for the FDA to even LOOK at the sanitation report.
The state could have acted much more quickly, and possibly avoided the outbreak altogether. But, as usual, hindsight is always 20/20.
I feel like this egg situation has gotten way out of control. Any types of egg can carry salmonella but the fact that this is happening makes me question the USDA and just how proficient they are. I cant help but wonder if something this little gets out of hand..whats next??
I think both groups are at fault for the bacterial outbreak. Both are supposed to check and inspect eggs for these reasons. Too many people have been hurt, and why? The way i see it, the job wasnt done right and something needs to be done about it.
Someone needs to be responsible for making sure that farms have sanitary conditions. Whether it is the USDA or the Food and Drug Administration I don't think it matters. But one of them needs to step up. Its disgusting that the salmonella rate is the highest it's ever been. Everyone will suffer from this outbreak, the consumers and definitely the farmers.
The USDA shouldn't of been so lazy and put people at risk by not reporting what was going on. I don't see how people like that can keep their jobs when they know for a fact that something is wrong. If you can't be responsible enough to report serious health conditions the people in charge should be fired. I hope this problem doesn't occur again and that all the unsanitary eggs are thrown away.
This is why i believe, ethical or not, that the chickens that are sick should be treated. If its a matter of my eggs being healthy for me to eat then i say go ahead and do what it takes to make them acceptable for my consumption. But what that farm did is crazy!! I mean look at the dates...geez
In my opinion, it doesn't matter you is ultimately at fault here. I think that both the USDA and FDA should take responsibility and take care of the issue. US citizens should not be served "bad eggs".
The Iowa farm should not be held accountable for this outbreak of salmonella because it is the USDA's job to inspect such things and warn the U.S. citizens of this.
With half-a-billion eggs recalled you would think that the USDA would have done something. The USDA knew about the salmanella outbreak in the eggs, also the farmers knew, who sent out the eggs. If the farmers would have noticed the outbreak in the eggs sooner then they did, this outbreak could have been handled and not have been as widespread. The farmers and the USDA should be held resonsible for this outbreak because they chose to do nothing about it.
I think its really un professional that the USDA didnt report the bacteria that was found. I think what they did was very wrong and dangerous to other people and they should be punished for their actions.
i think the USDA is extremely stupid and should've done something about what was going on andit wouldn't have been as bad and they would've caught it in time. it sould matter bout more than the conditions of the packaging place, the place where the eggs come from first is a major contributor. its sad that i would know something like that and these suppossed smart people don't.
If the USDA knew about this, they should of taken action to prevent contamination. Clearly the United States needs new Administrators who take more responsibility, and care whether or not people in their country will die because of their lack of effort in their job.
Both the Iowa farm and USDA, are the reasons the eggs are bad. The farm shoould be keeping taps on the feed and USDA should be looking over the farms work. It was laziness and not taking responsibilty for their jobs on both of theirs parts.
i think someone is just not being honest with themselves, and someone isn't telling the truth. I don't think eggland did it at all, but whoever did do it needs to step up to the plate and take responsibility.
i think that these "bad eggs" should have been taken care of before they were distributed to the people. the USDA should have tested them and made sure that the people are only getting the best, pasterized eggs.
