Week of Gloom and Doom

How bad is this week's economic news? What is in your thoughts with these reports as the holidays approach?

That wasn't all bad news. It seems like inflation/deflation have been controlled, as the CPI is virtually unchanged. It is bad that the Dow is as low as it is, and retail sales are as low as they are, but hopefully things get better.

The first thing I want to say is that I am happy that the price of oil is low. So noth everything is terrible in the economy. With the stock market being down 35% so far this year, it is hurting the everyday person. Inflation is rising and prices are going higher. Unemployment seems to keep getting larger and larger. I am worried. This economy can only take so much.

its kinda scary that the economy is so bad this close to the holidays. i think a lot of people are going to experience less extravagant holidays than they're used to.

I think that the holidays this year are going to be much more difficult than they have been in the past. Families are going to have to tighten the belt on spending for a lot of things. It is going to be interesting to see everything unravel...

I think these hardships around the holidays will force people to really understand what thanksgiving is. Many people take so many things for granted, maybe this will teach Americans a lesson on what is truly important.

this sucks. christmas is right around the corner and it seems that the economy is just getting worse. no matter what we try to do nothing is going to change. with the stock market getting down to 35% and unemployment this is a bad ecomony right now i just hope everything takes a turn for the best.:]

I'm gonna have to agree with Amy on this one, The holidays over the years have been one big cluster of spending. maybe people will start to realize the value of it all due to the economic conditions.

As we all know the prices in gas and such right now is a good thing but also bad if that makes sense. With inflation rising i hope people do realize its the little things that go unrecognized that we need to appreciate.

Oil price is dropping which is great, but it appears to be the only good news in our economy now-a-days. The stock market has dropped, inflation is increasing, as well as the unemployment rate, retail sales have decreased and the more we look at the economy the more bad things we see happening then the good. So all I can do is hope the economy can pull through or we may have to take drastic action soon...

The economy's current state has forced a lot of hard-working citizens to the realization that we aren't here for all of the luxuries that the world is trying to provide for us. We think that we're in a bad state, but we really have it much better than other people in different nations. We have to remind ourselves that we're not the only ones in this mess, it's worldwide. The recession has been declared by the government and I hope that people once again realize that we have to work through the hard times of unemployment and inflation.
