Recession: How Much Longer?

Time magazine has posted an article about the state of the economy. What does the article say and what is your opinion?

I agree with the article and I knew this is what was going to happen. With all the great programs such as Cash for Clunkers and many more, we are slowly beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel. We may not be progressing to fast, but we are getting out of it little by little.

I am happy to see that the signs are pointing to the end of the recession. Although it will not be something that is fixed over night, it is gradually getting better and the economy will be completely healed in time. It's unfortuante that unemployment will probably continue to rise after the economy recovers, due to the fact that companies do not want to hire workers back before they are confidant that the recession has ended.

I am interested in seeing the newest report coming out. It is definantly good to hear that we are inching out of the recession. And everything is looking up. But I am still cautious over it all. The programs are great, and it appears they did help. Hopefully we keep moving in the right direction.

The recession is getting better. People are spending and not hoarding. But yet we are not out of it. We have still awhile till things are normal and good. But we are better and hopefully we will progress.

This article is saying how the recession is going away and that the economy is coming back.It explains in which sector, or place, where the improvements are taking place. I think that what this article is saying is what's really happening right now because no one is going to sit around and watch this mess(the recession) put America in another depression. We should exploit every opportunity there is to make us better off, as long as it's not making someone else worse off.

elyniP4 said...

Things are defintly getting better and were slowly being pulled out of the recession, even if it's not as fast as we would like. People are begging to spend more and go out to do things, improving our economy. Hopefully we wont have to worry about this for much longer.

Chris Edwards said...

It's great to see that the signs are pointing to the end of the recession because the quicker the better and as far as I'm concerned President Obama is doing a fantastic job in office.

JBiddle7 said...

I think that the recession is going to last much longer than this article says. Unfortunally, everybody lost their jobs and the houses are lost. It is going to be a while and then take a while to recover. It will be great when over, but we have to wait.

I got confused while reading the article with all of the percent numbers, but I understand that slowly the economy is coming out of the recession. It still sounds like the unemployment rate is pretty high, but with hopes that the percentage of unemployed decreases. I hope that once we come out of this recession, we increase our personal spending so we don't end up in another recession. It's nice to finally hear some good in the news instead of all of the negatives about the recession and our economy.

RebekahW6 said...

In my opinion, I am not really sure if what the article was good or bad. On one hand, with all the programs like cash for clunkers, our economy is doing better but there are still lots of people without jobs. If they keep cutting jobs then people are going to quit spending money again and that will only damage our economy. But I think the general idea of the article was to say that we are slowly comiing out of the recession little by little.

Jakefletcher said...

It's always great to hear that we are getting out of the recession, even if it is slowly. We are moving in the right direction thanks to many of programs through President Obama's stimulus plan we'll be out in no time.

Dustin D. said...

This article talks about how many economists believe that the economy is greatly improving. This is good news. Hopefully the unemployment rate will drop and people will start spending money again, truly making our economy stable.

JessyC6 said...

I believe that gradually everyday we are getting closer and closer to the end of this mess we are in. I think the recession could last at least another year but I think it is moving in a positive direction instead of backwards.

HOLOGRAPHICpizza said...

It's good to see that the recession is starting to come to an end, but a lot of damage has already been done. It's not going to easily go away, it's probably going to have a few ups and downs on the way out. Hopefully it just doesn't go all the way back where we started and we won't have to spend another year digging our way out of it.

An increase in consumer spending is a good sign. I hope it continues this way. But, I always keep the thought in my head that maybe consumer spending is increasing meerly because so many americans have been lulled into a false sense of security by Obama's amazing speaking talent. I suppose I sound pessimistic, but with unemployment staying high and suspect to raise and peek over ten percent I don't think everything adds up right.

Ahhh...
A dim light at the end of such a long tunnel.
I, as well as most of the people before me, agree with this article.
The only thing I wonder is; once we're out of this recession, how long can we avoid or prevent another one???

It's a great thing that the U.S. is getting out of the recession, even though it's happening slowly. There are programs that are helping us recover and things are getting better.

anthony o'brien. said...

It is really good news that everyone is being optimistic about the recession, and the news believing that it will soon be over. I think it would be great for the recession to be over obviously.

jparks5 said...

I don't know much about the recession it hasn't affected me much. I can see it is affecting some people around me though. But i can see some of the government programs are working well.

briannab5 said...

The recession hasn't affected me much so i dont know much about it, but i notice that it is affecting a bunch of other people. There are many programs that are slowing pulling us out of this recession, and that is def. a good thing. So we should keep doing these things that are helping us get out of recession.

AshleyS6 said...

its good to see the recession is somewhat near the end. the unemployment rate is still high but hopefully, we will start to see a decrease in it.

Lindsay Sweatt said...

I do agree.. And I glad to see that spme people believe that his recession is almost over. Even a little at a time is good better then seeing it get worse.

Abbie said...

I am pleased to have read this article and see that we are slowly but surely making our way out of the economic recession. I hate to see that the percentage for unemployment is still rather high and i hope that soon more jobs will start becoming available. With the programs such as Cash for Clunkers and Obama's stimulus plan, our nation is recovering. Hopefully by 2010 everything will start to turn to the positive side of the economic spectrum.

kaygibb said...

Reading the article made me feel better because its good to know that the recession is almost over. Many people, including me and my family, will be very happy when it is. I think Obama is doing a great job as president and with this issue.

L.Howardperiod7 said...

I don't know anything that the numbers mean, but it's good that the economy is slowly recovering. Even though our economy is making it's way back I think that unemployment will still be high for a while because of the positions that were lost and will be hard to recover.

Anonymous said...

I am pleased to see that we are able to see an end to this economic madness. With things such as cash for clunkers and the stimulus package, we should see progress. This on the other hand does not mean we will be economically strong, just growing.

Heather said...

I agree with the article and previous comments. The recession is slowly getting better, and the goverment is slowly thinking of ideas to get us out of this bad state our economy is in. I think with time this will all be over.

Alec said...

It's great to see that things are headed in the right direction. There have been many good things going on like the Cash for Clunkers program. Although getting out of this recession is going to be a slow process, it's good to see some progress.

MikeyBrown7 said...

I agree with the article i feel that we are coming out of the recession and it seems to get closer and closer to being over. All the programs are helping out and after time keeps going we'll make it out of this struggle.

N_Squire said...

I hope that what this says about us coming out of the recession is true but but you never know what could happen. We could alays go into another at anytime, one rhat could be worse than this one. all we can do is cross our fingers and hope for the best I think.

PatriciaR4 said...

I think is a great thing that there is a gradual change in the economy. I am also interested in what the next reports will say.

agg2011 said...

This article has backed up my opinion of us getting out of recession. It will take a a long period of time but eventually we will get out of it. We are very fortunate thats its obviously coming to an end, even though it isn't happening as fast as we would like it to.

PatriciaR4 said...

I am glad to see that the economy is gradually getting better. I can't wait to see the next reports coming out and see if it will keep up.

Vicky7 said...

I'm more than happy to see that the good times are coming back and the bad times are leaving us: the recession is almost over!
Although this isn't an issue that will mend itself over night, I believe we are progressing at great speed. Yes, there are people still without jobs, but if you look at the big picture are there really enought jobs in the world to accommodate everyone? probably not.
The economy is fixing itself with a little help from the government and eventually we will find ourselves back on track once again.

Whitney said...

It's not like the recession is going to end tomorrow but it is getting there VERY gradually. Consumer spending is a positive sign that money isn't as tight as it was a couple months ago and people are getting more comfortable with the idea of spending money.

AOsborne5 said...

I am glad to see that we are coming out of the recession. I can tell because my mom is back to work at her job. Which means people are starting to get cars again. We arent totally done with it, but we can see, slowly but surely, its coming to an end.

Austin Mooney said...

I'mhappy to see that thingsare beggining to look up, even at small amounts at a time. Hopefuly people continue to spend, that is what will really get us out of this.

BrianM6 said...

To me the ups and downs of the unemployment and spending are not that surprising. Bush put us in a big mess that is going to take a while to clean up. Hopefully that light at the end of the tunnel isnt a freight train coming our way. Hopefully we will gradually keep getting better, everyone works too hard and has too many other things to worry about for us to get burried any deeper.

astrother7 said...

An increase in consumer spending is a good sign. I hope it continues this way. Its may be slowly rising but it is progression none the less. The situation will still linger after things are resolved because the jobs that are lost were high quality and in great numbers

ChrisShort said...

I agree, I really feel as if things are starting to get better, I really feel as if the recession is finally coming to an end and the economy is getting better. I really think all the diferent programs and everything that has been used has really made an impact and things are now getting better, I think it's great and can't wait

AJDowning4 said...

It's good to see that the economy is headed in the right direction. Unemployment is a lot higher than we would like it to be right now. Hopefully that will change over time. Slowly we are being pulled out of the recession.

Lauren True said...

Well,in all honesty, I do not really understand all of this economic talk but I do believe what Bernanke and a few of the other economists are saying about our double-dip recession. I think that we are going to think that the recession is completely over and then, BAM! Were going to be hit with an even worse economic downfall. I mean I really hope that I'm wrong and that everything goes right and this is the last recession we'll see for a while but I'll believe it when i really see it.

im happy too see that the recession is slowly ending , its going to take more time , but with help it will soon be over !

It makes me extremely happy to signs pointing to the end of the recession. It is good to see that stimulus programs are working out. Hopefully it wont be too much longer until we start to see some serious progress.

Mwbeatty.7 said...

I disagree. I believe the recession will last quite some time longer,as bad as it sounds. Houses, along with jobs lost, and so called stable families beeing forced to live week by week, will still persist. Also, many businesses will be hesitant to hire on workers,as fear of the recession is still present. With all this said,i believe the recession is still a prime suspect in which will not be convicted easily.

ChloeM6 said...

I admit I was a little skeptical at first, being one of those non-believers in federal aid. However, one can't argue that personal spending is increasing, so people must also be getting their bills paid. Good for us!

Tyler Manley said...

I am glad that there are signs that are showing signs of the recession is getting better. we will be in the recession for a little longer. it is not going to happen over night. the thing that helped the most was the cash for clunkers

kwalker11 said...

i do believe that the recession is ending. I know that it will not be over just instantly it wil take time but the signs are positive. many are realizing that they only need the necessary to stay out of debt

Marilynツ said...

The article talks about how personal spending has risen and how things are getting better. In my opinion things are getting better although many people lost their homes and jobs. I don't think it will get much worse but it will take a lot of hard work and effort to get things back to normal again.

kara.m_xoxo said...

i'm happy ro see the signs.they are showing that the recession is going away a little but not really because there still are alot of people w/out jobs and homes.I think it's going to change for the better when obama settles down, like get use to being president!:]

I am glad that we are gradually coming out of the recession. We just cant jump out of a recession we gradually come out.

Sfranks2011 said...

the recession overall has been a huge downturn in the economy, but slowly we are starting to see progress in making it more stable. alot of different organizations have been put together to help the economy grow, like cash for clunkers. people might not see the change because its happening slowly, but we're getting there !

NTapia11 said...

The U.S is officially getting out of recession even though it's taking a long time but we are gettng towards the end:)

BreeLipscomb08 said...

Things are thankfully getting better, but with all the improvements the unemployment rate is still rising. This is one of the things that is sad but it is something that must happen in order for the economy to get where it needs to be.

its great that the recession is ending. It may not be happening as fast as we would prefer, but it is happening. Everything will eventually be back to normal, hopefully.

I'm glade that the recession is getting better than it getting worse. The programs are slowly taking us out of the situation but it's better than nothing at all. The recession hasn't affected me as much but as the recession is getting better it has helped a lot of people around me. Soon this mess will end.

JaQuan Williams said...

I agree with the article. And it's good to see that the recession is coming to an end. This is the most important thing we must do so that way we can a better economy here soon.

It is good to see that nearly all signs are pointing towards the end of the recession. However, it is a slow process; even with all the programs put in place such as the Cash for Clunkers. The end (of the recession) is near.

Things aren't going to be perfect anytime soon, but efforts are being made to help as much as possible. It will be awhile before the recession is no longer a problem, but for now we have to deal with the struggles.

Eva Estrada said...

this article talk about how we are taking personal spending to stop the recession.
the question is how much longer with the recession
i think
we should just get a chair so we
dont get tired of waiting.
recession still has a long way
to go
w should just be prepared for anythang that might be getting us in that recesion.

Nobodies knows yet when the recession is going to end but we can see some signs of improvement, is not much but is something. The biggest problem now is unemployment. Until that problem is not resolved the economy and the society will still suffer in the US.

i really dont care aboutt the signs or anything because my family didnt really go through changes. besides when people didint have the money to pay us rent. well i cant say i didnt care cause thats kinda saying i dont care about the people around me but it really didnt concern me

I too am happy to see that things are going up for this economy, however slow it may be. Yes, unemployment is going to continue to be high for awhile, but it will get better with time. Things are going to get worse before they get better.
