Some companies have done well during the recession; others have struggled. Are you surprised with this article? Can you think of any major changes your family has made during this recession?
I am not suprised by what the article had to say because to me, this makes sense. All families and people are looking for a way to save money, and if that means renting movies and buying cheap flip flops then that's a good idea. Personally, my family quit buying movies about a year ago and started renting them or watching newer movies on television. This saves twenty-some dollars on buying a movie that we will watch once or twice. During these times, families are definately looking to save a few dollars wherever they can.
People are seeing that they are making less, and times are getting harder. Money isnt as plentiful as it used to be in some families so they have to make choices that benefit them in the long run.
This article makes me happy and does not suprise me at all. I personally am not a fan of designer/name brand shoes, clothes, purses, etc. Why pay and extra $20 for someone elses name? Croc shoes are a perfect example. They are big, cloggy, violently colored flip-flops. Is a name worth the extra cost? I myself use Netflix and would recommend it to anyone on the bar about using it. For a measly monthly fee, you get unlimited DVD rentals and you can ship those DVDs back whenever you want and replace them with new ones. It, in my opinion, is a win-win situation.
This article didn't surprise me in the slightest bit. I didn't know the details of Netflix but Zac sells it pretty well and it makes more sense to do that then to buy movies or spend 8 dollars to go sit in a noisy, crowded, and cold movie theater to watch it the day it comes out.I am not a fan of crocs myself, I agree with the statement made about spending an extra 20 dollars for the brand name, when you can just as easily go down to Wal Greens and buy a pair of flip flops for two dollars. You may not have as wide of a color variety as you would with the Croc option, but lets be serious, who really likes those things anyways?
I am actually not surprised by the article. I expect the entertainment producing companies to do better than a company as of Crocs. It is just another sign that we are in a recession. My family shows many examples of spending money on entertainment. We have been very much into spending money on movies and such, straying away from other goods.
I am not surprised about this article at all. It makes sense to buy stuff that is just as good for a lower price in times like this. Netflix is a very inexpensive way to watch all the movies you want, just pay a small monthly bill, its a great way to save money. Netflix costs about 10 to 15 dollars a month and you could probably only buy one or two dvd's for that price so it makes a lot of sense.
I think renting cheap movies is a good idea because why buy like a 15 dollar movie, you'll probably get tired of watching the same movie when you can just rent one for a dollar and take it back and get another one. also money is a little tight so most people wouldn't have the money to buy some. My parents rent movies all the time. So this article don't really surprise me.
This article makes total sense. With people making less, the less likely they are to pay for unneccessary things like expensive flip-flops, or blockbuster cards. Families are looking to save money so that means cutting dollars anyway they can.
i completely understand the higer profit with the netflix rentals. With people losing money, renting movies is much cheaper than buying them. Also with netflix it saves money on gas because you dont have to go pick up the movie.
This article doesn't suprise me at all. I totally understand the fact of getting the cheaper shoe or the cheaper dvd's. I mean if you could get a cheaper and as comfortable shoe then why not?, Also the same thing with movies. You pay less and get to still watch th movie. People only watch movies a couple times anyway. In times like these people do anything to save money
People are starting to realize that they really cant afford to buy all the things they could a couple years ago. They have no room for stuff like $25 DVDS or movie tickets in there budgets anymore. They have to get what they need and stuff like that can just go without.Everyone is just trying to save some money whether its for their retirement or for their kids college. They know theres not room in the budget for stuff like that now.
I am not suprised by this article. My family has made alot of changes during the recession. We have had to cut back on alot of spending, and choices we make with our money
Like we no longer eat out but once a week, because it is so much cheaper for my mom to cook for us. We used to buy dvd's every Tuesday and now we rent. But really alot of these changes are not a bad thing. It makes us appreciate what we have.
I'm not surprised by what the article said. Of course renting DVDs is a lot more cost efficient and people are starting to realize that. And Crocs are overpriced. They're also ugly, so i can see why their sales dropped.
This article does not surprise me. With the economy how it is people are looking for deals and cheaper things. i've noticed a lot of different businesses have deals going on.
I honestly wasn't surprised at all by this article. People are becoming more financially conscious and are figuring out more ways to save money. Instead of paying thirty dollars or more to go to the theater to see a movie, a family can spend maybe fifteen dollars to rent a dvd and get snacks.
i think that the movie renting companies are a good idea because everybody is looking to save some money right now and these companies are a good way to do it.

Crocs are ridiculous. They are just big uncomfortable chunks of foam. I don't understand why people want them!
Renting DVDs makes sense though, because you can make a copy of the DVD and get movies really cheap! (Not that I do that or anything.....)
But at least people are finally getting some sense knocked into them and are starting to spend less.
