This is a pretty interesting article. I too did not think Sea Monkeys were real or know the meaning of Lego. Raggedy Ann scared me as a child, slinky's were always tangled at my house, but hula hoops were my favorite...I was a pro at that!

um i wish i was a sea monkey. i am gonna go buy some today i think. but anyway. i love toys and i used to collect the trolls i had hundreds and i would build linkin log houses and leave them out for ever they were just little squres but i thought i had built a masterpeice.

I guess this was kinda interesting... Not really though. I've only played with Legos. Shoot, I didn't see the Gameboy and Sega Genesis. Really, what kid wants to use their imagination when they play? Second, like every troll I've ever seen is naked. Good message, otherwise I've just seen "Trolls: the Ghetto Collection." Nearly all the toys listed are obsolete in this age of computers and game systems.
Btw, this author was super creepy. She alludes to pedophiles. Says she might me a psycho. Then to top it off, throws in a tidbit about bestiality (jk).

I thought the author was hilarious, Patrick.
Anyway, this article made me smile a lot. I think its funny how not many of the inventors set out to make a super memorable toy. Some of them were just last minute ideas or accidents.
And Lincoln Logs will always be the best toy ever. I still have a box somewhere... granted there's probably only like 2 pieces left, they exist.

This was neat. I think all inventors want to make something memorable. I can still remember having sea monkeys, and legos. Slinkys were my fav, and trolls creeped me out? i dont see how those were ever popular ew.! hah

I never had a slinky or raggedy ann? but i had some legos i played with all the time. I never knew how famous they were, i mean toys so simple? its amazing to see times have changed, and the advancements

I used to play with Legos all the time, they were one of my favorite toys as a kid. I never really cared or even played with any of the other stuff. It's crazy to see how kids today are playing video games, instead of playing with these simple toys that we grew up with. Instead of using their imagination they're just sitting at the TV screen all day. Imagine what kids will be playing with a decade or two from now.

I was kind of weirded out by the fact that two grown men were handing out hula-hoops in a park. That may be a bit scary. I was also fascinated from learning that play doh was originally sold as a wallpaper cleaner to remove coal dust.

caroline said...

It's crazy how things are invented. For example, the slinky was invented when a spring was accidentally knocked off of a shelf. I would have never guessed that play-doh was first sold as a wallpaper cleaner. I used to play with legos all the time. I never knew that the word lego had a meaning to it, I thought that it was just a made up name for a toy.

i think this article is pretty funny but pretty accurate. everyone owns most of these toys at some point. my daughter loves to play with blocks. not quite legos because she would probably choke on them. she has never seen sea monkeys. they would probably scare her anyways. these toys are fun for like kindergardeners or me :)

I agree that lincoln logs are the most fun to play with out of this list. Second should be the slinky and sea monkeys shouldn't even have made the list. I don't really consider a fish a toy.

If i would of just looked at the name of the article i would not think half of the items on there would be there. I wonder where the wii,PS3 and Xbox hmmm.
Those would be my first two choices. Also i have never seen a sea monkey and I only heard of one in cartoons..

I used to play with linkin logs when I was little.. I don't anymore. I also really liked to play legos. Once i made a pretty beastly house with a garage, doors, windows, gardens, toilets, and people. I was pretty much a profesional.

When I was little I had a hula hoop, a ton of play-doh, and at least three slinkys. I'd never really heard about anything else on the list. I knew about brine shrimp because we used to feed live ones to our fish- I didn't know they could even be pets.

this article is very amazing! I would never think about how some of these toys were invented. It is very fascinating. I think I will go out and buy some sea money's and really look at them!

Toys.Toys.Toys. I Love Toys. I Didn't Know That All These Toys Were Created Ha. This Is An Interesting Article, What Would The World Do Without Toys?

I wasnt a big fan of these toys except the slinky. Wow that toy could keep me busy for hours on end!! lol i was actually a barbie type of girl.

I have never had a sea monkey…
I have however have played with play dough and legos and with a slinky, by far these are some of the best toys ever!
Moreover, Patrick I had a lot of fun using my Imagination with my legos and play dough. Anyways it is true that now and days most are these toys are not as popular anymore. The electronic games are taking over. [The other day I asked my niece if she wanted to with a slinky and she looked like at me as if I was crazy and went straight to the Xbox.]

I think it's really interesting to see how simple toys can be. It really goes to show that it doesn't take a lot to stay entertained. Nowadays all we have are complex gadgets to keep kids happy. I bet that the Xbox wasn't invented on accident.

It's weird to see how things were invented, especially when they come about as accidents. It kinda makes you think that maybe you can just be sitting there one day and all of a sudden you have an invention that although may one day be obsolete, will always be remembered. I think all of us will remember some of these toys even when we are old and wrinkly.

Lorena said...

..wow i never thought those toys were invented in those ways, interesting. I havent seen sea monkeys. I always thought they were fake.

Justin D said...

Ticker toys and linkin logs were amazing. I still have them in my attic. These toys were so simple compared to toys nowadays. Electronics are what all kids have now. What ever happened to building things and making a mess?

Aaron.L said...

Linkin logs and Legos were my favorite things as a little kid and its really interesting to find out who made them and why.

JoeyR said...

That was a interesting article, I really had forgotten about all the toys I used to play with back in the day. I used to play with legos all the time and who doesn't love a slinky seriously the best Toy Ever!!!

colin0189 said...

it was pretty cool to see how a bunch of toys we used to play with were complete accidents. And i personally think you are all crazy. everyone says they "used" to play wiht these toys. Heck i STILL play with legos. that might be a reason why i dont have any friends. the slinky was never fun. actally quite boring. half the time the failed and didnt make it down the stairs. and then IF it did, you had to go get it...

I love this article. I use to love toys as a kid. But only the guy one. The G.I. Joes and sports cars were my favorite. I haven't actually played with sea monkeys. But they should interesting. I think china dolls are the girly items I collected, and they usually broke:)

Jalepera2121 said...

I used to play with legos, and all the kid building toys. Toys were so simple when we were kids, now its all high tech. I would be lieing if i said i dont play with legos anymore.

Tyler Baker said...

This article is interesting to see that kids are more into the more graphic expensive toys instead of simple legos or military figures. I used to play with legos all the time and never even thought of playing with video games. It just goes to show that we were easliy entertained as young kids compared to young kids today.

Jake_Snively said...

Great article ! I have always loved the classics. I played with lincoln logs and legos daily. Some of my favorite memories were with these toys.

Ok all those toys Are kinda of cool when you first see them or read about them in this article but their not fun to play with. I think the sea monkeys are weird. The only thing I like off the list is the play dough and it smells good.

Derreck59 said...

every one of those toys are awesome! i wish they still made lincoln logs ant tinker toys. play doh was pretty sweet to. the hoola hoops didnt work to good with me so i dont like those, the slinkys were awesome if you could keep it from getting tangled and stretched out. but the lincoln logs are by far the best toy ever

tramz09 said...

Toys! thats wats up. This might be the best article i seen yet. I loved playing with all this toys when i was younger, but i still play with some of them now. But if all these toys wasnt create the world would be sorry

Austin Georgia said...

It's really interesting to see how simple an invention can be and how big it can become.

GarrettLebo5 said...

This article is cool how it shows different toys that I used to play with as a kid and how they were made. I was amazed that play-doh was initially used as wallpaper cleaner.

Jake Wilson said...

Ah, this article brings about some nostalgia. I have to say that I always liked Legos, but you never actually built what you had planned to build. Trolls, on the other hand, are just creepy and offer no value to the toy world.

JChrobak said...

this article was very interesting. i use to love legos and things like k-nexs as a child. i still remember most of these toys, i hardly see k-nexs anymore though :(
