A Middie Inspiration

After Judo Gold

Read the article above about Kayla Harrison. The Middie who won gold at the Olympics. What is the most inspiring thing about her to you in the article? How did you feel after she  spoke at the assembly? Did you notice that she talked about goals?

The most inspiring thing about Kayla is that she over came being a sexual abuse victim. It's a lot for the mind and body to overcome. For some it takes years and you are not able to be intimate with even your own love partner, but Kayla over came it and has accomplished so much! After she spoke at the assembly, I felt the same as before, she did an amazing thing being the first women to win Gold in Olympic Judo but she is still like any other normal person. I'm sure Kayla loves the fame and stuff but everyone should still look at her as if she is a normal person. She is still like every one of us. Like Kayla said, "A goal set, is a goal meet." Some should continue to live by this slogan, as should Kayla. I did notice she talked about goals. She set her goals high and attained what she wanted to. With every small step one can attain what they wish to achieve in the long run. It's a lot of hard work and dedication, but "A goal set, is a goal meet!" Kayla is an amazing woman and has accomplished soo much but everyone should remember that she is just like every one of us. Yes, she is an Olympic Gold Medalist but she is just like every one of us. She went to MHS when she was little as we do today, she has went through some of the things we go through today. We can make our way through things such as Kayla has, as long as we set our minds to it! Everyone can achieve a goal, such as Kayla has. Just set your mind to it!

After reading Kayla's article I believe the most inspirational thing Kayla has said and has gotten over is being a sexual abuse victim. I believe this is inspirational because Kayla has shown that anyone can overcome any thing that has scarred or hindered them in life. Even what she has went through in the past, she has put all of that behind her and made something of herself in life. She has a fiance and even is the First U.S woman to win the gold medal in Olympic Judo. That is a lot to accomplish and feel proud of.After she spoke at the assembly she has inspired me that I can accomplish great things( not everything) if I put my mind to it and have the determination and patience as she has. I noticed what she talked about when she talked about goals was that a person should set smaller realistic goals first. No one is going to just wake up and find themselves where they want to be in life. Nor will they just accomplish one big goal in a few days. They should split their goals into smaller goals and then work from there. Kayla taught me that smart goals can help me in life and help me be successful.

I find it truly inspiring that Kayla has accomplished so much in her life, but still takes time to remember where she came from. Kayla is more than an Olympian, she's a Middie, and she believes that heart and soul. Listening to Kayla at the assembly really opened my eyes to what I could do if I set my mind to it. "A goal set, is a goal met," is probably the best advice anyone could give me. Kayla has gotten me to actually think about my goals in life, instead of brushing off the possibilities. I wouldn't say Kayla's my idol but she is a woman who knows what she wants. She has given me the urge to not just know, but to be known.

The most inspiring thing about Kayla Harrison has to be her mind set to never give up. When she was talking at the assembly i realized how hard she must've trained to accomplish such a feat. Words as " A goal set is a goal met" is really inspiring and people should start saying this more often.

The most inspriring thing that Kayla Harrison achieved during her time spent to become the gold medalist she has become today is her being able to not forget the town that she grew up in and coming back to show her appreciation towards Middletown. After she spoke to the highschool i felt as though Kayla has been able to maintain her humility and managed to stay humble and not let the fame that she has earned get to her head. Kayla spoke about the goals she set for herself and told us how we can set goals to achieve things currently out of reach. She always had the idea of a ladder and the fact you cant make one giant step to get what you want but many smaller, more realistic steps, to carry out your goal.

Kayla is inspiring because as a child, she saw what she wanted to be and, despite all odds, such as being a sexual abuse victim and dropping out of high school, Kayla pushed through it all and met her goal, and is still happy after going through all that. There are so many walls that block people from accomplishing what they need, and everyone can relate to such a situation, yet many of us don't see a way around that wall, and end up giving up on crossing it. She's inspiring because we who don't have the determination need another hope, and Kayla has boosted our morale. After the assembly I felt that hope, and when she told us to write down our goals when we got home I set that task in my mind immediately! After all, if this person, also a (true) Middie, could achieve such huge goals, why couldn't I? This story should be talked about not only to the local area, but the world, because we can always use that extra push!

The most inspiring thing Kayla's story has to show is her individual ability to stay focused and determined. She now has something to show for her hard work and determination, and she has reached the pinnacle of success in that category. What I find the most interesting is what she plans to do next; a cruise or more Olympic gold. Either way, she remains a champion and the epitome of a driven individual. During her speech, she emphasized goals and what they mean for your future. She takes the time to show you what it got her, and hopes only for everyone else to be able to do the same.

To me, the most inspiring thing about Kayla Harrison is her ability to become succesful in something that had so much to do with her sexual abuse. Kayla was abused by a former Judo coach of hers and still managed to continue with Judo and become a world champion. Her being able to put everything behind her shows how strong of a person she really is. After the assembly, I realized that to Kayla, it was about more than being a gold medalist. For her, it was about reaching her goals and inspiring others to do the same. After hearing her speak, I was amazed and inspired to reach my own personal goals.

The most inspiring thing about Kayla is that she accomplished her goal even though it would bring back memories of her being sexually abused. She didnt give up. Also, being the first women to do what she did is a inspiration to all young women. After she talked to us at the assembly I felt pride. I was proud that she was from Middletown and was a little shocked that she came from here because well, its Middletown. I did notice that she kept talking about goals and I totally agree. In order to be successful you have to set your mind to it and believe in meeting those set goals. A goal set is a goal met.
