I don't have a job yet but I know many people my age or a few years older that do. Most of my friends work long hours or very few hours. One girl even quit her job to focus on graduating college for nursing. Another guy finished high school and just went to work at a local video game store.
Jobs are scarce, and money is tight with most families so people my age are wanting jobs but because of the economy, most can't find work or even if they did, the hours are likely to be long and their wages low.

Yes I have a part-time job and some weeks I will not get as many hours as simply because there are a lot of young un-educated people there in their late twenties that need or that think need more hours then evrybody else. It has been pretty successful, I get about 25 or more hours every two weeks. Most of friends do not work. They say that it is really hard for them to find a job. I see that the unemployment rate is going down because there are a lot of teens that are not finishing up school and then they drop out and csn't find a good enough paying job that can live off of.

yes i have a job i work at lonestar and have for about 7 months i usually get a lot of hours sometimes i get 40 hours a week. i at least work 5 day a week. we have some people at my work who aren't going to school and who made the choice of working there their whole life, there are a lot of people who do not have jobs just because they cant find good jobs with their amount of education.

No, i don't have a job yet, but i have worked as a waitress before for my aunt's comedy show. Most of my friends do have one or two jobs and work daily or at least two to five times a week. I do however have friends that don't have a job because they say that it is hard for them to find a job. I see that the unemployment rate is down because most people don't graduate from high school or dropout. Most jobs in the United States require at least a high school degree. This is one of the factors of there being so many people unemployed.

No i do not have a part time job, I do ref soccer games but only for like 2 months a year. No i have not tried to look for a job. Some of my friends work but more don't then do. I see a lot of high school graduates making me food at fast food restaurants. Most people who graduate here stay here and work jobs here in Middletown.

Yes I have a part time job during the Kings Island season. I get as many hours I need and it's a gurantee I work the amount of hours I want each week. Only a few of my friends have jobs. Many teenagers try to look for work but there's nothing in Middletown. Most places are looking for people that are at least a high school graduate.

I don't have an actual job, nor do I want one at the time; I'm too busy with activities, my mom is shocked when I come home from school before 5 o'clock, then I have all advanced classes to the point where I rarely get to watch TV or play video games. For these reasons I have never tried to look for a job, The illustrating "job" I'm doing works around my schedule, and I usually only get to work on it in my art class. Most of my friends are unemployed, or have jobs where they only work once or twice a week for their church or something.
I know many young people who are looking for jobs, but aren't successfully finding one in the field they desire.

I personally do not have a job nor have I looked for one. I will most likely start looking this coming summer before my senior year. A couple of my friends have jobs working a grocery stores of fast food restaurants. I believe it is hard to tell if unemployment is bad or if people just aren't looking for jobs. Honestly, I believe jobs are out there for teens especially part-time.

I did have a job and I actually liked working there. I worked at Goldstar Chili but I had to quit my job when I moved away and could no longer walk there. It took me over a year to find a job for myself and now I am facing this challenge again. It is obviously harder for teenagers to get jobs lately because older men and women are getting laid off and are having to work at smaller younger jobs. Since the more experienced people are now applying it is harder for young kids to get jobs and to get started with their life. Times are hard.

I do not have a job. But I have applied at Kroger. I was not successful due to the amount of people trying to work there. A couple of my friends do have jobs but very few. Most of my friends do not have jobs. I see many teenagers, such as myself who are looking or who have looked for a job and can't seem to find one. I also have friends that are technically employed but just don't receive hours.

I do not have a job yet. I plan on applying to the Mount Pleasant Retirement Village in Monroe. I see many teens my age that have jobs in fact most of my friends have jobs, but I have talked to others that have applied to almost every place they can and they still have not received a job. I think that right now there are not that many positions open in the work force but I also believe there will be more to come in the future.

CaseyMays08 said...

Unfortunately I do not have a job, and it seems like most students my age do have a job. I plan to get a job soon though because I feel like it is time for me to become an adult. However many of my friends are still seeking to find a job and they have applied to many places but have have not heard anything from them. I feel as though if I want to do well in school and focus on my grades then the best thing for me to do would be to hold off on getting a job and wait until I graduate, or have a summer job. Also I would like to add that they get paid very minimum, and I don't see point in wasting your time when you could be studying.

yes i have a job at lonestar. my hours change every week depending on how many days i work, most of my friends work somewhere. its hard for teens to get a job because a lot of places arent hiring and some that are say you need to be at least 18 to work there

Krista House said...

I work at OshKosh in the outlet mall and it is very difficult to compete with the adults who are over 18 because there aren't as many restrictions on them. As minors, the State says we have to take breaks and can only work so many hours while school is in session. When we didn't have much help I got almost 30 hours a week but now that we are fully staffed, I'm lucky if I get 10.

yes i do have a part time job. i work at meijer and have worked there for the past 3 years. Yes i do get a lot of hours because of my experience and hard work. I usually work no less than 5 days a week. There are a lot of people who made the choice of just kepping a simple job and not wanting to move up in the world by not going to college, but I'm not going to judge because thats their choice. Plus its hard to find a good job these days anyway, so why try and find a new one when you have job that you been at four a long time and know what you are doing

I have had a job for about 9 months now and all my friends have had jobs and been able to keep them. My parents kept the same job for 34 and 36 years. I usually get about 10-20 hours per week depending on my schedule. Most of the people that are older at my work do still live with there parents and it is only because money is tight and they are finishing college. I believe that if you arent finding jobs its because you really are not looking for one and are not persueing. the squeky wheel gets the grease.

I do have a part time job at Aeropostale at the outlet mall. I get anywhere from 10 to 25 hours a week but everytime i work there are adults working with me. Most of them are young managers that do have a degree but some do not and earn their entire living by working at aeropostale, which is sad. I've decided id rather go to college and get a well paying job then stick with a job a teenager 16 years old could get paying less then 20 dollars an hour. But for now being a teenager and getting the paychecks i do , im satisfied with a low paying part time job until im on my own and do not have my parents support.

No, I do not have a job. I have looked for one and it was successful but my parents didn't want me to have a job. Just about all of my friends have jobs, and everyone wants or needs a job. It's on of the main things people talk about on facebook, asking who's hiring or where to work. But for many it's very difficult to find a decent job with actual good hours and pay, considering all the teenagers that work locally.

Yes I do have a job in landscaping with my father during the summer time. I usually work about 54 hours 6 days a week during the summer months. but I am on-call during the winter, spring, and fall months. But I have to say that even in this town specifically it is hard to find a job due to the economic crisis. I also see that many teenagers these days are trying to find jobs now to mostly keep a secure job during high school and college. I realize how hard it is to find jobs during these days to find a decent job with good hours and without graduating from high school yet.

I have two jobs right now and at one point I had three. I have regular hours at one of them and at the other, I may only work one day a week. I honestly don't think it was very hard to find a job but other people may disagree. I have been pretty successful, and most of my other friends do have jobs. I don't think that it's very fair because we are too young to be stressing about paying for our own cars and gas but we do have to learn responsibility. We need to be actually living our lives because we will be working the rest of our lives.

I do have a job and i looked very hard for a couple months then i finally got the job i have. Most of my friends that want a job have one and my friends that do not want a job don't have one. So, i think the jobs with teenager are fine because they are out there we just have to look for them.

I do not have a job at the moment and neither do a lot of the people that I know, however they're not really looking to get one either. From what I've seen and heard, places just aren't hiring right now. I think that it's difficult for teenagers to find jobs today because most places that are hiring require at least a high school degree and aren't usually very flexible with schedules.

I do not have a job, however I have beening searching for a job. I have turned in 5 applications and still have no job. I have plenty of friends with jobs, but also plenty without jobs. Some teens get jobs for their own money and others get them to help out their families often because their parents may be jobless at the time. Jobs are difficult to find right now, not only in Middletown but most of the U.S.

I work at McDonald's on Verity parkway. And I had no problem finding this job due to family connections in the upper ranks of McDonald's corporation, but for a lot of my friends this hasn't been the case. Not many of my friends work, and if they do its pretty unstable. I work decent amounts of hours for my scheduale and I believe its been a success.

macyfaulkner1 said...

Unfortunately I do not have a job. I have tried very hard to get one but there aren't many opportunities available for people my age. Only a few of my friends have jobs and they are paid minimum wage and get very few hours. I see a lot of graduates still in Middletown working in retail or fast food restaurants because those are some of the only jobs available in the community.

yeah I have a parttime job at penn station. I work like three days a week and I also have to be scheduled around my volleyball schedule in the fall and winter. most teens have to know somebody who works there or have a good word put in to the boss to be hired at a young age in Middletown. most places want employees with flexible schedules, but there is a high teen unemployment rate in Middletown.

I do have a job at the moment, and I'm very grateful for that. Many of my friends have been looking for jobs, but I have been working part-time since last June. I work at a dermatology office. As much as I enjoy working there, it is unfortunate because they are only open from 8-5 on weekdays. I can work all day during the summer or when we don't have school, but during the school year it is difficult to get hours in. With the economy still not doing super well, many adults are taking jobs that teens would normally have. This is unfortunate for both groups because the teen doesn't have a job at all, and the adult can barely pay their bills. I believe that if you look hard enough for a job and put your best foot forward, you can find a job with enough effort and perseverance.

Yes i do have a part time job. yes I have been sucessful so far. about half of my friends have a job and the other half don't have a job. what i see in Mddletown modern day society is that people dont have a real "stable" job like they used to like when our parents were growing up that is due to the economy failing. I see more and more people are just try to live with the bare necessities.

Sadly, I do not have a job. Over the summer I put applications in about 10 places that never returned my calls. So, I gave up. I was planning on getting a job this semester but most places just aren't hiring. On top of that, my grandmother (which I live with) has cancer and she's very sick so I usually stay at home and help her. Also, I have a one year old niece that I help raise because my sister is pregnant again and is trying to balance school, raising her baby, graduation and finding a college so I help her out a lot. I'm very busy with school work, family work and trying to maintain my social life so at this moment I do not really have time, nor even want a job.

I used to have a job at kings island and I never had a problem with hours, they needed as many people as possible, so thankfully I can say my first job was a pretty good one. But I do know people who work part time jobs and only work about 6 hours because of the number of people they hired. So I can see that the unemployment rate is going down.

Yes i have a part time job. I haven't seen these affects very much at all. I get a good amount of hours to work, and most of the workers at my job are under 24. Most of my friends do not work. I had no trouble finding a job when I looked for one, so i think that people that can't find jobs just aren't trying very hard.

Anonymous said...

I do not have a part-time job, however a large amount of my friends do. I haven't really looked for a job, either. In our community, I've seen that quite a few teens have jobs, some even have several. From what I've noticed, some teens are unable to get jobs, but overall a lot were. This article is true, but doesn't pertain the best to the youth in Middletown who actually want jobs.

I have a part time job at lees famous recipe and I enjoy it. When I got the job last year it was easy to get and since then I have went from working up front to being a dishwasher. All my friends work there and most of the employees are high school kids or teens. My manager is good about working around scheudles which is nice and it's always good to have a little money

The only time I got a job was from my uncle around December last year. It was great. Even though working there was hard, I earned a $600 paycheck at the end of a few weeks. I don't have a job at the moment, but I would like to have one that didn't interfere with my sports.

i have a job but i can understand what the article is saying. there are some weeks where i put in almost 40 hours at work and dont get much money at all. people always talk about how 40 hours is a full work week but i feel that there is no way anyone could survive getting paid minimum wage working that much.

Brandon Rodriguez Per. 1 said...

yes i have a part time job, and the hours are unsteady, but i get paid over minimum wage. A lot of places don't hire and its a pain to find a job if you don't have one, middletown is one of the hardest places to get a job in my opinion and its not going to change unless the economy gets a lot better
