I feel that the way the economists feel is somewhat understandable, but also very unfortunate. It's understandable in the way that most areas seem that there isn't really room for improvement, as there are so many sub-genres in everything. However, there always has to be a person to start these things. I feel that people should not try and limit themselves or others based on how many other people in that area there are. Example being, I want to be an artist. There are hundreds of other artists in the world so I have lots of predecessors to work around. I have to find my own way on a path that's already been traveled. It's the same in every area that we have. Michael Jackson made his way and he made it well. If he can do so, we all can too, regardless of whether or not others have done so previously. (Not that we should copy other people, we just shouldn't be intimidated.)

OMG! It's Mehlxy! I love you Mehlxy!!!

It's so hard to read that article and not think more on Michael Jackson. When you think Michael Jackson, you do not in any way think economy.
I think the things Michael dod for this country and it's economy will never be forgotten, and can be considered legenday, easily. He helped increase the number of people who bought his music, went to concerts, and most importantly, he helped launch MTV; one of the biggest music franchises in the world.
He took his abilities and love for the world and changed it. The ENTIRE world. Few musicians, realists, and even politicians could ever even make a dent in the world's economy, but this man changed it completely.

We need another MJ figure to help us out of this "recession".

This is proof that economics is not all about who has the most money to start off with, just who uses their assets and skills wisely to create a profitable market and come out on top. Michael Jackson came from a harsh upbringing as a man with imagination and vision for what he perceived as his world, his life, his music. Not only did he bring a whole generation to their knees bowing the the undisputed King of Pop, he put both MTV and the genre of pop music on the map. He showed a greedy insulting father that dreams and visions can come true and that money is not everything. (God... im choking up!) Michael loved what he did, everyday of his life and he will be missed.

Michael Jackson is a very good example of using your God given talent to pursue what you love and make great money at it. When people have these talents I think it's very important to show what you've got because you never know if you'll get that chance or not too. And the fact that people from other countries like Shakira are getting just as an equal opportunity as every other American.

I never thought about that before. There are talented people all over the world who are wasting their talent, so their like the $100 bills on the sidewalks.Michael Jackson got picked up because he wasn't afraid to show his talent, and he became a huge icon because of it.I think that if someone has a talent, they shouldn't hide it, or waste it. They could be one of the bills picked up.

I never thought Michael Jackson had anything to do with economics, but after reading this article I agree with the author. He decided to chase after his dream and ended up impacting millions of people all across the world. People cannot be afraid to step up and start something new that they believe in. They could end up being the biggest name and the hottest thing on the market in whatever field they choose to go into.

Jackson is a prime example of how America is one of the very few nations where you are free to do almost anything to go from a nobody to an icon. He didn’t just market to consumers in hopes of being profitable, He created a fan base while changing the look of music, dance art and to some people life. He came out with the title “King of Pop” and an insane large fortune.

Michael Jackson is one of the biggest music artist of all time selling millions and millions of records , actually one of the top five selling artists of all time if i am correct. I understand that michael will be missed but i think that the media has completely blown the situation out of proportion . You cant even turn the television a few weeks later and not hear more stuff on michael jackson from every channel from cnn to mtv i think the media has more important things to worry about than someone who has died

when i think micheal jackson i think king of pop not economics. He is known world wide and has had a huge inpact on the world not only the us. It is true that he was worth more dead than alive though because his sales have more than doubled once his death. What he has done will never be forgotten.

Even though I think Jackson's music is garbage I have to admit that he was very succesful and had a large amount of fans, so he must have done something right. I can understand the economist's reasoning because they think in terms of businesses and is this economically sound or not. That's their job. They fail to take into consideration the way people's minds work and how people can suddenly love something overnight for no apparent reason. It's not that their thoughts on this have no basis it's just that they think of things in the only way they know how or are most comfortable with.

Michael Jackson is truely someone to look up to. Though throughout his career he made a few minor mistakes, in the end he was known as the person who inspired so many music artists and teenagers around the world. He carved the path for people in the music industry. He showed everyone that it's okay to take chances, and be original.
When I think MJ I definitely do not think economics. But with marketing all his products, albums, what-have-you's, you come to believe that his sales did help the economy.

Michael Jackson was an amazing entrepreneur. He really did make something out of nothing. But there are just so many people that want to become singers that it makes that profession not that special. But michael jackson made a living out of something that he loved so he should be praised for the breakthroughs he has made in any industry.

when i saw michael jackson's picture on here, i was just sure he had nothing to do with economics. but this article was surprising because it proves a lot of points. he bought a lot of things while he was alive. he was very well known for his amazing concerts and his huge expensive mansion. he splurged every chance he got. many people would love to live a life like his, being a phenominal singer and having lots of money. he's kind of an encouragement to follow your dreams. cause some people do make it big. and hey, i love mtv, but its so different now than it used to be... but thats another topic (:

Michael Jackson is a "poster child" in a sense for the idea of going from a nobody to an insanely famous "King" multi-millionaire. American royalty almost, using only what he had.

Michael Jackson was a personal favorite of mine. Although im absolutely sick of hearing about his death (3 months after it happened) he was a great artist. He has many abilities and talents and he, along with his family, pursued their dreams and he now is, and will forever be, one of the most successful artists. He impacted many people worldwide and taught many others to go for their dreams.

Don't get me wrong, Michael did a lot for the music industry. He did things that no one else will ever be able to do simply because he did them first - and at the right time. But personally, I'm sick of hearing Michael Jackson. People bashed him all the time when he was alive, and if you said you like Michael Jackson you got made fun of. But since he's died, people are all over him and how sad they are that he's gone. Don't get me wrong, it is sad, but people need to get over themselves. They're not fooling anyone.

Again, I have to give him credit where credit is due. He was an incredible musician that the world will probably never see again. (I'm preparing for the angry comments any time now.)
