I hardly know what to say except people don't like using coins so much just because they aren't as easy to carry around as dollar bills. People will not like the idea of carrying coins around in their pockets.
I really agree with this article because lately I have been using a lot more coins then bills. Just yesterday my friend and I were digging out the loose change to use at Taco Bell! I try to use the change so i have more bills around and it does make me feel like I'm saving money. Where else would i use all my excess nickels and pennies??
This denomination effect is interesting. I find it hard to believe that people spend more money when they have smaller portions of it, or when they use coins. I guess the recession has caused this.
I think the denomination effect is an interesting thing. I agree when I have a handfull of change I would rather use that than to break a dollar. Im not really sure why, whether its the change that weighs down everyone's pockets that people don't like or if it really does feel as though you are spending less when you pay with change. But, it could possibly work. Hand out change to the Americans and they won't want to be tied down and they'll spend spend spend!!!!!
I think that this effect makes perfect sense for numerous reasons. It's not surprising that people tend to cringe when they are forced to break a large bill. If money is spent in increments, you don't really feel that you are spending quite as much. With coins, most people are actually happy to get rid of the loose change that has accumulated at the bottoms of purses and car seats.
It's an interesting phenomenon that people tend to be willing to spend more money if they have coins. However, I don't like carrying coins around, so I would not like more $1 coins or a possible $2 coin.
I really liked the view of this article. I agree that by using coins more often, it would help our economy right now. The only problem is that, when people go to stores to purchase items, how many of them really go through their purse or pocket to search for coins to pay? I never like being the customer who holds up the line just to find change, so i just pull out the dollar bills. Or what about those customers who simply pay with credit? Its all about how much money, whether its bills or coins, you are willing to carry around with you when you shop.
I kinda feel embarrassed when I use coins. I used like $2 worth of coins the other day at McDonalds, and I constantly kept saying sorry because I know it's such a hassle to count them all and not lose any. Plus, coins just weigh down your pockets and purse. Maybe using coins could be a possibility if the coins could be worth more and possibly not weigh as much.
I agree with this article. I try to use up my change as often as i can because i hate carring around coins and would much rather have dollar bills in hand than coins. I feel bad paying in change because it is such a hassle but i hate having it since it weighs down my purse.
Interesting but I think I'll stick to debit and cash. Coins are great but I usually just save them in a jar until I get enough to turn in for bills. Although I could see where a lot of people might like to use change because they think they won't spend it otherwise.
..this article is right, people would rather spend coins than bills. I usually dont want to spend any of my bills. And if i have coins, it makes me want to spend them. I dont really know if the 2 dollar coin would be a good idea. If i have 2 dollar coin in my purse, there's a big chance i will spend it and that would make me less thrifty. If it would have been 2 one dollar bills i would have not spent it.
I agree with this article but I hardly ever use coins. I just carry around money in dollar bills and never bother to look for the exact change. I also work at Target and its kind of annoying when people hold up the lines because they want to make sure they have that .43 cents instead of two quarters.
this article is talkin about using coins more aften. That is true we should try it and see if it works. People likes to carry bills thand coins unless there worth more like a dollar coin. I also agree with the lady that say we should produce monre one dollar bill coins and we should even try and make a 2 dollar coin just to see if it is a sucess.
Using coins might help the recession, but the convenience of paper money, credit, and debit cards will always be there. Plus carrying coins around in your pocket isn't the best feeling, and the jingle is quite annoying. Most people would rather just stick with the more convenient than the less.

I don't know what to think of this. I know that people don't like to carry change and that could be one reason why people like to buy items with coins. Personally I really don't care if I have to carry around a bill or coins. I must admit that when I do carry around coins I feel like I am spending less. So, I do tend to buy more. So I believe that this could possibly work.
If i have coins laying around i will usually use them just like the article says and when i get gas i usually try to make it so i get change back so that i have coins laying around
I personally save up coins until i get around seventy dollars. I agree it helps me feel frugal when i do use change but it is impractical to always have a pocket full of change.
Coins are heavy in your pockets and fill up your change purse. I really dislike them but lately i have been using them more often. mostly for the simple fact that they are just in jars in my house and i have one jar of change that has accumulated to fourty dollars! however i never think people will like the idea of just carrying coins over bills.
i agree i would rather pay with my change and get rid of it than use a dollar bill but the effect is interesting i never realized that. i really liked the view this article took.
Coins are annoying. I agree with what they are saying, but in this day and age, people are always going to lean towards what is easier, and that is using credit cards and bills. It would help the economy with coins, but I don't really think people would be up for that idea.
I LOVE COINS. i use them more than dollars. i bet it will help. pennies are money to. people disregard coins but it adds up and its just like throwing away.
Coins are annoyingly impractical. Besides, if you see you're breaking a large bill it makes you shy away from the purchase. Personally I was always taught to always pay with paper. Then save the coins. IDK. It's worked well thus far.
Coins are too much of a hassle. They just take up space in my pocket. If everyone started using coins, checkout lines would become ridiculously annoying and long. Swipe and go is a whole lot easier.
I think this is very true! I work at the drive thru and people will come in with bags of change instead of breaking there bills! Im completely opposite and I will break my dollars before digging around for change. I think this article was very interesting
I think that it would be a good idea to use coins instead of money if it could ever acually work. Our country will never transition to coins. The reason people are so easy to spend coins is because they dont like them which is why people will never carry around just coins
I think people don't like coins cause they are easy to loose and no one likes to carry them around. They think dollars are easier to handle. With coins you have to search for them and so on. People now and days are wanting to stick with credit cards or dollar bills!!!
It's Always A Good Idea To Keep Change Around Cause More Than Likely You Will Need It Especially For Tax. But I Dont Like Carrying Them Around Just Because Its Too Much So To Have $1 && $2 Coins Is A Bit Much Just Leave That Too The Paper Money(:
This is a very interesting article. Although I hate carrying around coins I also hate spending more money. I feel like this is also how many americans feel.
I really do not like using change. I kind of feel like I just picked up all of my money on the street and I feel bad for the person who has to count it. It is kind of hard to keep a lot of change because it just weighs down your wallet. I prefer cash, even if coins my help stimulate our economy or whatever. Thanks! : )
Its hard for me to believe that people use coins more than bills but then again its not. A lot of people use coins because they dont have a lot of money and they find coins around the house. I use bills more than coins though because I have bills but sometimes I do find myself using coins when I have them.
this was kind of interesting. i would much rather pay in bills than coins. and usually when i pay in bills and recieve change back, i always keep the change and save it until i ahve enough to roll into cash. Coins are just too inconvient, too bulky, noisy, and more expensive to produce.
Coins might be apart of the recession because people do not use them at all and just save them. Or people just throw them somewhere and never find them. The country could just spend them or quit making them because they spend too much money on making them, than that are spent.
I don't believe any of this. Sure for others they might spend lots of change but I'm usually the kind of person that spends bills and forgets about all the left over change.
Working at Mcdonalds will show you how much more people have started to value change. For instance, people realize more and more that you can use change to prevent yourself from getting more change.
Personally, I dont like carrying change around. I hate using it to pay for stuff and I just like breaking a dollar cause counting change takes too long. But I'm willing to do anything to get us out of this recession. My dad however uses change all the time. We once payed for McDonalds in mostly change.
ill be the first to admit that i went digging in the couch cushions just to buy a dollar cheeseburger. i dont mind using coins but then again im not a person that carries around a lot of bills. lol
I love paying with change because it feels like you're not spending money. But its just super inconvenient, so I don't normally do it. The only time I really spend coins is if nobody is behind me in a line or if I'm at a vending machine. Otherwise, its just super annoying. I think since most people think like me, spending coins is just out of the question. Its too much of a hassle.
Coins just arent as practical as bills. If you save up your coins it will ad up to the same amount though. If you can find a way to make coins as easy to use as bills it would make things alot easier.
this denomination effect is really interesting. i find it hard to believe people dont carry extra change around. no one really seems to know why either. recession or no recession, this is still a problem
UGH!! I would deff not like carrying around coins. they make my hand smell funny, i believe dollar bills are alot easier to carry around then coins. I could live without them. They should make 25 cent bills! lol that'd be cool. =]

Coins are one of the most impractical things on this planet and I'd much rather use cash and save the coins up for a rainy day.

I agree with the article, this is because that people don't like breaking big bills so they'll use anything but the big bills.
