I am not a very good test taker but if some one were to say if you get an A+ on this test, then I wil get you $500, then you better believe that i am going to be studying, asking question, whatever it takes to get that A. Schools that has givin out money to students over the past couple of years has gotten good results, because knowing that your working for something like money, gives you that extra push to do good.
There are a lot of factors that influence academic performance and they vary for each individual. This solution only handles those without motivation. For many, personal matters invariably impact focus on school and no amount of money changes that.
According to the article, the student incentives reveal mixed results. This is hard to believe for me because if we had the chance to get paid for doing well on AP tests, then I would be in a constant mindset to study. I guess we will have to wait and see if the future shows promising results.
I think giving money to students for academic achievements is a excellent idea. Many students now days are not motivated and do not apply themselves. Giving students an incentive for doing well on AP tests could give them the motivating they need to excel in the classroom.
I think that incentives for students is a good idea. Although there are mixed results, I feel that more students would become active in class. In turn, the schools would do better and start giving better incentives.
I think that having an incentive will help motivate students do their work and do well in school. There could be some downfalls to it but overall i think that it is a very good idea. I don't see how there could be downfalls when the students get a good education and some money. I wouldn't mind having this at out school.
Like the article said there are many factors that could have effected the outcome. Although the students did better the teachers in turn got more funding for better training which also could have helped the students.
I think this is a great idea. It will make student motivated to study for a big test and do well. I myself absolutely hate studying and I think if I had money being thrown in my face for good grade, then I would be the happiest person alive to study for a test!
After reading the article I must say that, paying students who do well on the AP tests is a good idea. Not only do they receive an award for doing so well, but it can also help them pay for some expenses they may have. On the other hand, if students will only study hard on tests just because there is a reward in the end, then in the future when there may not be a reward for doing well on tests, the students will be less motivated to study and do well. Then there will be the problem of 'oh i wont do the work unless i receive an incentive later' So i am not totally against this, but then again i am not really for it either.
This article says that many schools are implementing a pay for performance incentive where students can earn up to $500 dollars for doing good. I don't think this is a very good policy, though, because there are so many other factors that could come into play. Like what if the student is a bad test taker, or misses school a lot due to circumstances that are beyond them? I'm not offered money to do well, and I'm still passing my classes. I feel like students should be motivated to do well on their own, not with money.
If I were to get money for school you can believe that i would live only studying. For example (sorry Mrs.Rowland) for example, In AP Econ the stocks assignment. I have an extra push because I know that I can earn 50 dollars and that gives me more of a drive. (even tough I am motivated in school).
i agree that the influences on academic performances vary for each student. i dont know if i agree with giving money though. students should work because this is there job until they graduate. they should work hard because this is what is expected of them. giving money would just open more doors to what else students would expect to receive.
I think offering an incentive is a good idea for most people. It would work well for those who are too lazy, and lack motivation, like me. However, I wouldn't take up on the opprotunity because it really wouldn't be learning it to make yourself better off. It's studying because you're greedy. Another thing is some people lack good performance for reasons such as family life and home situations, or they just have bad timing with events or something. Being offered an incentive would not help that situation any.
I think rewarding students to do well on an AP test sounds great in my opinion. This would make students want to study harder and excel more in the classroom and out of the classroom if they are getting rewarded but at the same time, you aren't always going to be rewarded in life for doing something good and this shouldn't be your only motivator.
Hey i'm all for making money while being at school. I think it would motivate many struggling student to do better in school. This is a pretty good idea if you ask me.
I believe that this would be a great idea if the students didnt receive the actual cash after taking the test. $500 is a lot of money. I think this might work as an incentive if the money went toward a college fund and then the students get only a piece of the money at the time of the test. :]
I agree with jeremiah. Im not that good with tests but if I know Im going to get a big reward I think i'd be studying extra hard making sure I get the results I wanted

Incentives for students in my opinion is a good idea. I think this would make more students want to pay attention in class and actually want to learn.

I think giving money to students would be cool because im a student, but i dont think it would really help fix anything.
