Why are gas prices going up again?

Read this article about the prediction for gas prices for spring of 2009 and comment on why they say this will happen and what you think about it.

So I personally thought gas was doing a good job with prices actually being reasonable.... Look at them now! Why is it that always during elections the gas prices tend to decrease but not long after they increase again. If gas increases in price anymore people aren't going to know what to do. I guess start walking or ridding their bikes everywhere huh? We are in a little thing called a recession at the moment and citizens are having a hard time as it is paying for gas. I really hope that one day we can stay constant with the price of gas for a long period of time!

I really hope gas go up to $2.50 by spring. I can't believe it was $4.00 and up last year. It would be nice if an alternate fuel source would replace gas altogether.

rowland said...

Caroline, did you really mean to say that you hope gas prices will go up to $2.50 by spring ? :)

So gas prices are going up again and might be up to $2.50 by the spring. This might seem ridiculous but it has already been past four dollars before. I think that people will complain about it but they won't go out of their daily lives to change their way of transportation. People will continue to buy the gas even if it goes back up to four dollars. Hopefully our countries research in an alternate fuel source will provide us with a different source of energy.

I don't have a car so i mean to me its not a big deal. The gas prices effect my family which kinda effects me in a way. Say if i want a video game or i want some candy or something, i may not be able it get it because my dad will say i don't have enough money because i have to get gas,. The gas prices are going up and down for no reason. Why? Maybe because we are trying to save it or make people walk. I don't know.

In the article it said that, we did not have pipelines in West Texas therefore, as their prices went down we did not receive the cheaper gas as we expected. As for the $2.50 cost by spring, it does not seem as terrible as it was this past summer. Lets not forget how most of us just wished gas was only $2.50 before. Sure its high and we will not like the price increase, but it sure is better than $4!

It was nice while it lasted, but I really didn't expect gas prices to stay low. Realistically, I don't think the world can depend on fossil fuels forever for multiple reasons. We already have the technology for developing alternative fuels, but it will take some time to wean ourselves off petroleum.

As long as gas doesn't reach above $3 or $4 I'm alright. And even if it does, I'm still going to buy gas. I have to have some form of transportation for longer distance drives. Gas is something that everyone needs and their going to buy it no matter what. The only way to change that is by creating an alternate fuel source.

I Thought The Gas Prices Were Doing Really Well, But I Tend To Notice Every Now & Then The Prices Go Up & Down. One Minute Its $1.95 Then The Next Its $1.89. Its Ridiculous, If Gas Prices Keep Increasing I Dont Have A Clue On What My Parents Or Anyone Else Is Going To Do. Riding Bicycles,Or Walking Is Not Harmful & Guess What You Save Money? But If Were Expecting Gas Prices To Go Up To At Least $2.50 By The Spring Time, Then I Can Only Imagine What Its Going Be By This Summer.

I really don't think $2.50 by spring is that ridiculous. Considering it's been hovering under $2.00 for a while, it might seem like a jump, but it was almost $5.00 last summer. We are all living in one great big oil conspeiracy. And it's freaking awesome. :(

caroline said...

Whoops. Haha I meant to say I hope gas doesn't go up by spring.

I dont really think its that bad because the gas prices have almost been double that in the past. I think no matter what the gas price is, people will still buy it. However I would be happy if they found an alternet fule. That would be pretty cool.

i was really happy when the gas prices lowered i knew that that was to good to be true.hopefully the prices will not be as bad as they were a couple of months ago. i think that whatever goes up must come down with time. the same will happen with the gas prices.

Well, I can say that im also glad to hear that gas prices will remain relatively "cheap" in the months that follow. I'm also wondering the same question that everyone else is: Why should that Texas refiner produce more oil if the oil they already produce is not being used? Yeah I suppose we don't have enough pipelines, but something has to be done.

Gas prices will probably always rise and fall, that's just what they do. I guess it didn't really surprise me too much that the prices are expected to rise by spring, since I figured that they would always continually be high. They'll rise, but they'll fall again. That's just the circle of life, or gas, I should say.

I personally don't mine gas prices going up a little bit ($2.50 by spring). That beats the hell out of last year when prices were around $4.00. Honestly as long as prices stay under 3 dollars I'll be a happy camper. I feel paying anything more than 3 dollars for a gallon of gas is absolutely ridiculous, so hearing that prices were only expected to rise to around $2.50 by spring made me quite pleased.

For right now it seems like the midwest is doing fine with gas. Whenever the rest of the country is hitting record highs we seem to be way under what everyone else is at. So for me im fine with the way gas is for us here in Ohio it may not stay that way but we can sure hope it does.

colin0189 said...

I cant complain about 2.50 a gallon. We all had to pay 4 bucks a gallon in the fall and that was outrageous. i dont think raising the price 50 cents by spring time will be a big deal. We all have to buy and use it and 2.50 sees somewhat reasonable. just keep it below 4!

The gas prices slowly went down then now its slowly going up again. It's going to be difficult for those people who drive around. I just hope it wont go higher than $3 again. Plus I am going to start driving soon, i would not want the gas prices to go higher than it was last summer.

Everybody was excited about the decreasing of gas prices. It was finally at a reasonable amount where people weren't at the point where staying in doors was cheaper than actually going out. Now that the gas prices are going to increase again. Everyone should have predicted that, but long as its not a repetition of the prices last year. I think everybody should be grateful:)

Farzana said...

I'm not really surprised that the gas is going up. It is constantly going up and down. It just does that, so it doesnt really surprise me anymore when someone says that the gas prices are up. I hope the prices dont go up and that the gas is cheap but that more than likely will not be happening.

Hannah Sue said...

I didnt recognize how bad gas prices had become until I started driving last year. At that time it was up to $4.00. Around election time it become reasonable then now its going back up. I wish we could find an alternate fuel source all together or find a low constant gas price!

um i drive and when all the lights went out and gas was 4 dollars a gallon i wanted to die alittle. it always seems like somewhere over seas is making or producing everything i need which is silly. i dont understand why we dont figure out a way to get the kind of crude oil that goes into the gas. how come our crude oil isnt good enough? i dono....sounds kinda fishy to me.....

Dalelonda said...

Oh gosh.
this scares me..I have a car and now I have to get a job so i can afford gas. ha. =/ I hope this recession ends soon!! I dont understand why we get ourselves in this mess.!

I really wish gas prices could just stay low like they were around election time. Especially with the recession and all it really helps people out. Gas prices need to stay consistant. For right now i'm in good shape, as long as prices don't get back up to $4.00.

Tyler Baker said...

Gas going up and down is annoying. I don't have a car right now so gas prices really don't affect me, but when I do get a car, I will be somewhat happy I didn't have to pay the 4 dollars a gallon and I will hate paying the 2.50 if it even reaches that, but this is will much better than paying 4 so we can't really complain because the economy is at its worst right now.

DanTheMan said...

I'm not a driver yet so the gas going back up doesn't directly effect me, but i really am hoping it goes back down again, it helps having to pay less for rides, and eventually when i get MY car I'd like to keep a PART of my paycheck =]

StephanieC said...

The gas prices, and having to get a job to pay for them, and then with people getting fired, or no hours, is a never ending circle. I remember when gas was only about $1 a gallon, or something like that. I don't have a car yet, nor do I really drive(only have my temps), but looking at the future, it looks pretty grim. When I get my own car, and a job, I'm going to have to save up like half a pay check to pay for gas, what with no one getting hours, or losing jobs. It's crazy.

Jake_Snively said...

Gas prices can only be effected by diplomatic relations and scarcity. If we can create an alternative energy source we can help control the price of gas. As much as i hope this happens soon i highly doubt it.

CJohnson said...

if the gas prices would go up in the spring to 2.50 i would have to stop giving people rides and start charging so i can keep gas in my car. but i rather have the gas 2.50 than up to 4 dollars any time!!

tramz09 said...

Gas is crazy now days. I hope price dont go up anymore I dont have car right now. But when i have my moms car i usally take people home lol. Ima have to say if it goes up my taxi fee will have to go up too.

ellie said...

I just recently got my license, and will have to start paying for gas. I think this $2.50 is a whole lot better than the $4 it was at earlier. So I'm not complaining ; )

MLemmert said...

From what they say the price of gas could be up to $2.50 by spring. I think the rise in gas prices will effect people in little ways but not nearly as much as it did back when it was $4.00. Hopefully someday soon we will find an alternative gas that is way cheaper.

Derreck59 said...

gas prices need to stay down! even though they arent as high as they used to be they still suck. i the car i have, it has two wheels and two pedals, and its free. Nice

Stephanie said...

I think that 2.50 by spring is amazing-it is no where near the 4.00 it was this summer! It could be way worse!

Megan A said...

It's like a tease. And I don't like it. I really wish they wouldn't go up, but what can we do? It was nice while it lasted, and hopefully the price of gas doesn't reach four dollars again : /

Austin Georgia said...

As long as oil is a non renewable resource gas will continue to rise. Eventually gas might even reach a point when it becomes to expensive to afford what so ever. I hope that doesn't happen during my lifetime.

JChrobak said...

I thought the gas prices were find. but we should also all know that is when alot of ppl go on vaction for spring break so its a good time to make money, exspecially during the times were in

Jake Wilson said...

Gas prices are going to go, especially when the summer months hit and they switch over. Not to mention how used to the huge profits OPEC got so they will inevitably cut production to jack up the cost of oil.
