All we seem to hear is the bad news....high gas prices, home's losing value.... etc. Have you heard the positives? What did you learn from this article? Have you made any of these purchases?

It is good that some things are cheaper. The new technology is making things avaliable to all consumers even in these tough times. I remember back in 2004, my dad paid $1,400 for our laptop. Now they are only $775.

But I would rather pay the extra $28 for a digital camera than pay $4 for a gallon of gasoline. The bads right now outweigh the goods.

I never realized how much the prices are dropping each year. It kind of makes you angry though, to pay for something, then the next summer it is so much cheaper. I find it very interesting that women's clothing is getting cheaper while men and children's clothing is getting more expensive. Its very interesting logic.

Its obvious that with a rise in fuel prices that the price of foods will rise also. Thats a no brainer. But for things such as electronics and hotels, etc....?
According to this article, the price of these items are falling, but by one dollar or so. Thats why many people do not really notice that those types of items are falling.

Regardless of lowering prices on certain products, gasoline is always needed. It is something you'll pay for time and time again. However, electronics are one time expenses. Saving a couple dollars here and there doesn't compare to the evergrowing gas prices.
As most of us start driving, gas prices are beginning to effect us more. It has really opened up our eyes to the way our economy works and how things such as gas prices can effect everything.

Even though certain products prices are lower many of them are one time payments. I would rather pay a few extra dollars for a TV than pay $4 for a gallon of gas. Those items may be cheap but we are constantly using our cars to get to places and the prices are rising constantly.

Thats great that womens clothing, toys, and electronics are now costing less. Maybe if we wait a couple of more years, a nice laptop will only cost like 80 bucks! Hopefully by then gas prices will lower too....keyword "hopefully."

It's unfortunate that everyone is drowned with the negatives and hears nothing about the positives. I had not heard of any of these points. It's nice that prices are down on things like digital cameras (average price is down $28), and women's clothing (pants are down 4%), however, these are occasional purchases, while things like food and gasoline are constantly needed. I would rather pay slightly more for digital cameras and clothing a few times than pay more every time I'm at the pump or the grocery store.

With all the depressing articles I've seen about gas prices and unemployment and such, it is really nice to see something like this. It gives me hope that maybe our economy isn't as bad off as a lot of people think. I especially find hope in the fact that women's clothing prices are dropping. I think it's funny that the industries think that women buy clothes for leisure and men and children buy clothes when needed. In my opinion, that information is correct. All in all, this article shows a light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak.

on almost all of the items in the article the reduced prices dont help with a familys overall economic situation. those items, toys, clothing, and the such are one time buys. but things with rising prices such as gas need to be bought multiple times and are often needed for everyday things.

Electronics are one time expenses.Unlike food, and gasoline which are need everyday.
I much rather pay higher for somethin g that i will pay for once that for something that i am constantly needing.

On the bright side atleast somethings are cheaper. Hopefully this will pass down to everything else.
(crossing my figures)

In all the chaos of our economic rut we finally can find a silver lining to it. This is a very nice commodity that we have because for things like food and gas that have risen in price those things we use to buy because we had the money went down so could this mean we are really still spending the same amount?

All we ever hear are the bad things. I'm happy to know that there are some positives. I was interested to learn about all the different items thats price has actually dropped such as womens clothing.

So most of you are calling the people that are focusing on the higher gas and food prices "pessimists." While yes, I think our country has a right to look at the glass as half empty. While electronics and clothing {thank God it's women's clothing =)}are decreasing in price, the drop is not significant enough to notice a change. While gas prices are rising at an alarming rate, the rate outruns the rate at which items are decreasing. So yes, it is alright to be one of the many "pessimists." Purchasing gas is a necessity, buying electronics and tons of clothes is only a desire. So you saved a couple dollars on the top of the line laptop, but you spent about 50 dollars at the pump. Significant enough to make you jump around and hoot and holler? I don't think so.

I think that its great that the women's clothing and some toys and electronics are becoming cheaper. Everyone knows that they rise gas prices because they know we need it to get around, so that is always going to be an issue. Its crazy how gas can effect everything, but hopefully it will go down.

For women who shop constantly, this may be good news, but for those who enjoy eating great food and driving, its not the best. Is nice to know that some things in the world are decreasing in price, but the things in greatest demand are continuing to rise. Its helpful to see that we can save money by not going to the mall and shopping online, but what if the item you buy isn't what you expected. You will end up returning and and paying more for the shipping.

Even though the prices on some household items are being lowered, the price of gas still matters the most to me. With me about to drive, and not willing to buy a new plasma screen TV, I would say that my greatest concern is still the increasing prices of gas.

It is nice to see some prices aren't staying high but instead becoming cheaper. For some people it is a good thing but for others it isn't. It just depends on what you like to shop for.

Electronics only cost less because they are outdated almost by the time they come out. Manufactures of electronic devices release items with high prices and then drop them only months later because they already have new products with the same old features but with a few new ones added. It is one big cycle of money making on their part. As for household items, the prices only drop because newer and more efficient ways to produce the items are created.

In a way it kind of almost evens out. As the prices of gas and food rises, the prices of electronics, clothes, hotel rooms etc. are decreasing. It's just sad that the prices of things we buy much more often are the ones increasing, which really doesn't help anyone.

I'm surprised that there is a drop in prices of some things, but as other people have said, they are one-time only items. Gas, food, and clothing(for the most part) are constant necessities for people.

I'm glad to see that womens clothing has gone down in prices, even if only a dollar. However, if you look at it in the long run, you save a lot more. I've gone shopping for new clothes for school recently, and I didn't see too much in a drop in price, but then again, I don't pay much attention to it. It's wal-mart, everything is cheap there. I did buy a laptop recently, it was only around 400. Which is a lot cheaper than what I remember when I was younger.

It is a shame however that the prices of everyday necessities have gone up. Hopefully they go down, or keep going down.

This article was a very pleasant surprise to me. So many people are focused on negativity and high prices, it's a real relief to finally see some optimism. I recently received a digital camera for my birthday in June. To my understanding, it wasn't extremely expensive. Also, I can't say that I haven't noticed the drop in women's clothing. I am enjoying these cheap products.

I can see where the posativity doesn't come into play here. When's the last time you heard someone say "Well thank god plastic forks dropped .21 cents I just don't know how we could afford them otherwise"? These kinds of changes aren't out of the ordinary and with food and gas being things bought everyday and in high quantities they have a much greater effect on our wallets.

Sure the price of some goods may be getting cheaper and thats great! For certain people and the items they are shopping for. But I just got my first car a few months ago and gas prices have the greatest effect on me. Because I have to pay for my own gas I really have to be careful of how much I spend and what I spend it on.

I love that a lot of things have dropped in price. I just bought a pair of Lebrons and they were only $60 at finish line. A year ago they would be at least $120. Although some things go up some must go down. That is why I agree with Jim Glassman when he says that the economy is just sort of stuck. There are some things that go up and some that go down. There will be substitutions for everything and it will all even out except for houses. My house was bout four years ago and a house down the street was just purchased a month ago for only 60% of the price. The only problem is that it was the same model and identical houses.

Its good that some prices are going down, but I think the negatives outweigh the positives. This article lists a variety of items which admittedly have gone down in price, but most of these things are one time or very infrequent purchases, or things that just aren't absolutely necessary (digital cameras, flat panel TVs etc,) unlike gas and food.

I think that somethigns have went down in price is good life the electroics we live off of those things, but it does not match up to the rise of gas prices because those are off the chart prices. But I thought it was interesting that Six Flags cutt $10 off thier entry price

I also agree that its good that some things are becoming cheaper but like farzana said these are one time things we pay for not an every day/ week thing like GAS!

Prices are dropping which is a good thing. But what about the gas prices? Well, in my opinion, we should still be thankful that the prices of clothings, electronics, toys and other stuff are a little bit cheaper. This would help us a little to cut back expenses for the gas prices.
