Assuming I was a RadioHead fan I would like this idea a lot. Not having to pay for their music would be like getting a free ice cream with whatever toppings you want on it. I would assume that they would have to make money some other way though. Maybe they sell a lot more t-shirts and fan collectibles since their music is free or they charge a little bit more for their tickets. I don't know how they will make money but if I was a fan then I would be glad that their music was free to download off their website.
It's an innovative idea, but they seem to not understand that people already download nearly any music that they want. Limewire and Torrent downloads make it incredibly easy to download anything for free, so maybe they're going for publicity? Either way, i really don't see people paying for what they could get for free.
RadioHead is not my favorite. I think it's pretty dumb of them to give away their music when illegal downloading is such an issue right now. Does this mean that their concert tickets and t shirt prices will skyrocket? and if not, then RadioHead will go bankrupt and no longer be able to record their music? one way or another, it seems like a plus to fans but it really hurts them.
This is dangerous move Radiohead is making. I'm anxious to see how it works it. I think that it will get them tons of publicity. Maybe it will work out like it did for Prince, selling out all of their next concert tour. either way a i think it is a broad step to the future.
