Read this article and discuss how this article might impact you in the workplace. Is this article on track with what you see in your household or community?? This article is due Wednesday, January 11.
The article is dead on with what I've seen. My aunt and uncle have been in and out of jobs the last few years, partially because of the recession but also for other reasons. This may affect me but most likely not as much because the field I want to go into deals solely in technology or computer based things.
I don't think this affects me at all. I don't want to go into a field that has anything to do with factory working or anything like that. I see how they say that men are gaining more jobs because there are more factory jobs avalible right now and a women is less likly to have a job in that field.
this does not affect me, because i do not want to work in a factory and i couldn't see myself working in any kind of factory. but it did have a good point men are more likely to find a job because more factory jobs are avalible.
This won't affect me in the workplace. I want to go into the medical field and there is always a high demand for workers. I wouldn't to work in manufacturing. This article is on track in what I see happening in my community, a lot of people are unemployed. I agree withn article, that men can find work easier because of the factory jobs avaliable.
Honestly, this article doesn't affect me at all. From what I've seen in my community, it has affect a big chunk of the population. Just a couple of days ago, my neighbor lost her job because she wasn't strong enough to do the hard labor at her workplace. I wish this kind of thing never happened, but we can't stop things that are going to happen from happening. Hopefully, this problem gets fixed soon, so everyone can have a job...one day in their lives.
This article doesn't affect me, I'm going into a freelancing art field. And in art, the qualification is based solely on skill. Sometimes you can even get a job without meeting your employer, like the children's book I'm working on right now; the author and I have only ever conversed over the phone. I don't really see this trend happening. Most of my friends and I don't have time for a job, and my mom has always been a stay at home mom, with the exception of the Strike out at AK Steels when my dad was unemployed.
The information in the article does affect me in a positive way. I personally want to be an engineer which is part of manufacturing so this has a great impact on me. I have not seen a difference in the community, probably because I have nothing to do with a manufaturing organization, like AK steel.
Honestly, the article does show and compare to what I have seen lately. But only because it compares to how girls did have more jobs than men and women tend to have a degree while men do not. I am not saying that I think women are smarter than men but lately women are thinking more about the future than men. Which is a very smart choice. While men focus more on jobs now than school now and career later. In my household I only live with a girl,(my granmother),so I do not really get to see or understand how both men and women are working lately but I do understand that women were the main people gaining jobs a while back. So I would agree that men are now starting to gain what they lost back.
The article does not effect me because I do not plan on going into that type of work field. But it could effect my family in a very positive way because my dad is in the manufactoring field and this means that he will be working there for a long time and not have to worry about being laid off.
This article is definitely on track with most of what I have seen in my community and in my household, with the exception of my mother. My mother is a nursing manager and educator and since medicine and health is always in demand recession doesn't affect it as much. However, my step dad always had trouble finding and keeping a job. Now he has a stable job working as a tow truck driver. This earlier loss and gain goes along with the article.
This article does but does not have an affect on me. My step father lost his job a few years ago but did recover and get another job. It doesnt directly affect me because since i was able to have a job iv had one...there hard to find but there out there
This article won't affect me since I am going into the medical field and even in hard times there are always openings. I saw this help my father. He used to work for my grandparents at their car repair shop, but they retired and he was out of a job for about six months. He now works as a body repair man at Middletown FORD, and I don't see him losing his job any time soon. I have seen this happen in other places in my community.
This doesn't affect me because I don't want to go into this field. I am not completely sure what field I want to go in, but I know I don't want to go in this. This doesn't affect anyone in my household, but I can see the affects in my community.
I dont feel like this article effects me very much. i dont have any interest in the jobs that men are gaining right now. i feel like it may be unfair to women but it has no effect on my life at all.
This article doesn't directly affect me. It may affect some of my friends if they choose to go into that field of work but i plan on going into a different line of work. I believe this article is very similar to my community since I live in the area where it is affected.
The articl, as far as I have seen in my own household, does not relate . Nobody in my house has lost their job, been laid off, or even had a reduce in pay since the beginning of the recession. My mother hasnt had a job in years, but she stays home to take care of my two youngest siblings, and home school both of them, and my mothers boyfriend has had the same job since june 2005 working at a factory named Faurcea, and has been prometed within the last two years.
i do not think that this affect me because i am not planning on working in that work field. noone in my household is affected by this but it does affect the community.
I don't think this affects me very much because I don't want to go into an industry such as manufacturing or construction. There are many more jobs out there, and although men can do more lifting and that might give them an advantage, there are plenty of jobs that women have an advantage at.
This article does not affect me personally because of the fact that I currently don't work in the manufacturing field or plan to. I plan to go to college and get a degree. The article talked about how men lost their jobs sooner in the ressesion but are gettin them back faster as well, however some jobs were replaced by machines and they won't ever need to hire people for that job again. It also mentioned how the majority of jobs now days require a degree so some men that don't have a degree and lost there jobs to machines are in a bad place. Some women even left the workplace to go to school during the ressesion which now is helping them in the long run because manufacturing work is almost all men because they hired back from senority and men were the stereotypical hard workers. I don't personally see the affect of this in my household but I do see this problem in the community. People I know are out of jobs with no degrees that will have a hard time finding othe jobs
This won't affect me in my job of choice. I want to go into the medical field and there is always a high demand for workers. I just cant see myself working in a factory. Half the people in my family have worked in factory, and they were all mistreated, and were fired with no reason what so ever. So i would never work in a factory because i know how bad it could be.
This article does not affect me directly because I would like to go into the medical field. However, I do believe it will have indirect affect on me because now that there are more jobs available, the economy will slowly get better which will affect everyone in one way or another. This article is very accurate especially in our community. An example of this occurring would be the lock out at AK Steel a few years ago.
thankfully i want to go into a profession where this does not effect me, i want to do soemthing in the medical field. I have seen this in my community that a lot of residents in middletown are unemployed and cannot find jobs because of the recession but men are able to find some sort of job easier than men because a lot of low paying jobs are more physical based jobs like factory work that women are seen as not capable of doing.
I do not believe that this will effect me at all. I would like to major in either broadcasting or psychology in college but i'm not sure what exact job I would I would like to have. But I do believe that this will effect many people who are going into those field.
I see how this can affect a lot of people, especially since AK is practically right down the street, but this doesn't affect me personally at all. I want to work in a job that is in a lab all day, so factory jobs have no importance to me. Also, men are more likely to work in a factory job than women, since it requires more monotonous brawn, not that a woman can't be strong, but it is traditionally athe kind of job more suited for a male.
I don't think that this article really affects me because I don't want to go into any type of industry career. I do feel that this article is on track with what I see in my household and community because there are a lot more men that do those jobs and there are opportunities for them. The unemployment rate is a problem and I feel that it's unfair for women.
I do not believe that this article affects me at all because it talks mostly about manufacturing and construction jobs, when im not going into any of that for my career, and to be completely honest i don't pay enough attention in my home and community to know if it affects it at all
This article would not effect me when i go to get a real job because i plan to go to college and get a job not in the factory. My mom works at AK and was not working during the lock out which effected our house alot. But she didn't lose her job to a machine like the article said.
This article doesn't really affect me because I don't plan on working in a factory. I think that it makes sense for men to get more jobs than women because of the need for manufacturing. But as the article also stated, there's still the fact that some people are going to lose their jobs to machines. So in the long run, maybe everything will even out.
I think this article is very accurate in its ideas. From what I've seen in my community, lay-offs have been rampant and many lost their jobs, but several adults I know just recently gained manufacturing jobs, just like the article said. In addition, I do not believe that this will affect me as much because the fields of studes that I'm looking at in my future arn't based in manufacturing nor will it be within a couple years.
I don't believe that I will be effected by what is going on because my father works in a necessary field and is in a high managerial position. I will be going into medicine to be a doctor. I will most likely always have a job because no matter how bad the economy gets people still need doctors. I do believe that tis article is on track with what is happening in our community what with layoffs and the fact that no one is hiring.
I agree with this article that earning a degree is the best choice for a person's career. Technology is so advanced these days, that most of the jobs men could have because of their strength won't be back. Intead, those jobs will be replaced by machines. It doesn't effect me as much because I've always wanted to earn my degree and become a pharmacist.
This article is a lot like what I have experienced at home. After being in a job 11 years, my mom was let go due to the recession and cut backs. I don't think it will necessarily affect me because in the world there will always be a need for a psychologist/
This article is almost right but it's the opposite at my house. My mom is a nurse and her boyfriend is a carpenter. Because she works in a doctors office her work is steady and she gets normal hours. However her boyfriend gets most of his work during the summer and very little in the winter and because of the decline in the building and housing market there is very little demand for his services. So in this situation the woman has the better job.
This article has no real affect on me due to the fact that i don't want to go in to any field where this directly affect me so this is unimportant to me personally but may apply to a lot of Americans in the United States/
this wont effect me because i want to be a male teacher for middle school and those are always in demand so it shouldnt be an issue for me to have a job and i wont have to have a factory job
I'm not sure what I want to do in the future. But, I don't think it'll affect me as much because if I do get a job it wouldn't be in the factory business. This is easily seen in our community because many people are unemployed. But, I do agree with the article in saying that men have an easier time with jobs because it's easier for men to work in factories then women.
This article gave a very interesting perspective as to how our workforce is today. Men were primarily affected towards the beginning of the recession. This has now changed because many men are holding more factory and construction jobs now that the recession has died down a bit. Women are now being hit a little bit because there aren't as many jobs for women, but with many women choosing to go to college and receive higher education, this will benefit them in the years to come.
This article doesn't effect me at all because I have no job. Even in the future i don't think that this would effect me much because I won't be going into a field where I will be handling much machinery or do any factory working. There is no one in my family nor do I know anybody at the moment who is being severely affected by this.
This article is accurate in what I have seen in recent years in this economy. Which is due to this recession that has happened to this country. This may affect me in my workplace because of companies trying to save money and not having the budget to keep some people employed.

This article affects me in some ways , but at the same time it does not. This affects me because with more men gaining jobs it is harder for women to get a job. But this also does not affect me because I never plan on being a factory or construction worker. This article does go along with what I have seen in recent years, though. More and more men are gaining jobs now that the recession is over.
This article will have limited affect on me since the job I plan on becoming a part of isn't connected to factory work in a direct way. But I believe even the connections I will have to factory won't be affected by this trend of men being hired over women. I think this because the gender of a person doesn't affect the persons efficiency as a worker. As a result the people working in the factory won't affect me.
I believe that this article doesn't effect me. I would not like to go into the field where I have to work in the factory. I do agree with the fact that men are most likely to get a job over woman unfortunately. When I graduate college I would like to go into the medical field. This article however effects my whole community as well as some of my family.
I do believe we have seen alot of this in middletown with AK Steel. 3 or. 4 years ago people there where loosing there jobs left and right, and now they are starting to rehire. Honestly this does pertain to me such as I would like to be an architectural engineer. Yes this is a mainly male dominate field but whos to say there can't be any females.
this could affect my parents but it probably won't affect me because I plan ongoing Ito the military, which there is always a need for. this would affect people of they wanted to go into more of a trade job where they learn skill

I haven't seen what this article talks about up close and personal because there's no one really young that works in that type of industry around me. My step brother and dad get called out to do that type of work sometimes, but they haven't done that in a while. A few, but not all, of my friends have jobs, but they've kept them pretty steadily for a while. However, I have seen this in the older generations rather than in the young ones. A friend of my step mom is a nurse, and out of the blue her boss fires her. I think that the economic problems in the older people cover up the similar problems in the younger generation.
For me the article is not very relevent. I plan to go into a more safe field than those projected in the article. And as for my family they have had very little fear in terms of job security. So thanfully for me and them all should be safe.
